there is already a FA20 Subaru DI twinscroll turbo motor in the JDM LGT (http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/05...-gets-new.html) if they wanted it in the BRZ it would have already been there...

This makes sense, and FWIW, a Subaru salesman who had attended a presentation on the BRZ told me the STI version would appear for the 2015 MY. He said nothing about the upgrades it would include.

This just in from a source "The 2015 1/2 BRZ will be powered by nuclear power. It has been in discussion between Toyota and Subaru for some time now but they have finally come to an agreement.
This new nuclear powered mill will actually be capable of time travel and teleportation between different dimensions"

IBTL.

Granted Subaru does have a history of showing STi production models at the New York auto show which ends the season and is right before summer when Subie could concievably put the turbo on sale as a 2014, but I would think they would like to hold that bomb shell for their home turf and the Tokyo auto show at the end of 2013. A Tokyo reveal would push the car into a 2014 calendar year production and probably a 2015 model year designation.
First, they don't have to have a new model year to release a new trim level. They could launch a STi model anytime during the 2014 production run and call it a 2014. Assuming the 2014 BRZ arrives in Aug/Sept of 2013 they could still release a turbo in January 2014.

Second, they don't have to "reveal" the car at a U.S. autoshow. They could do it at Geneva next September as a worldwide release like Ferrari does with many of its vehicles.

Third, they don't have to release the car at an autoshow at all. I don't recall there being a big reveal when they decided to bring the WRX STi over to the U.S. They also could have their own private event where they invite the media somewhere in order to get more press attention. I think were going to start seeing less cars unveiled at autoshows in order to keep them in the spotlight longer. Kind of what Apple started doing years ago to showcase their products and not get lost in the shuffle of everyone else's new products and news coming out of the show.

Cool. Can I use it to go back and find the guy in the Honda focus group meeting that said "durr hurr, let's make the CRZ a hybrid" and beat him to death with a rubber mallet?

Good job on the FEATURES comparo...at least one of you ignored the Accord part and concentrated on what I was saying instead.

I disagree on the cost of engineering the LCoG aspect though and countered it with all the NVH of the other vehicle.

The curb weight comes down to physical size more than anything else, and incidentally the Honda is lighter than the previous model by about 100lbs...so Honda also spent money decreasing weight, if we are going to include weight savings a an added cost.

The electric steering according to the videos lacks a physical part that other cars w/o electric steering require. It could be argued that it is actually the cheaper method. I don't have that answer though.

Does changing the style of the seat make it cost more? Yes, I know aftermarket seats certainly do, but that doesn't mean they actually cost more to produce, only that the profit margin is larger. Which brings me right back to the whole point I was making in the first place and that was that the twins are at maximum price, and adding a turbo would be difficult to do and keep the car in a respectable price range when compared to vehicles that are in direct competition(NOT the Accord which was used only as a reference to features).

I agree on both parts. That was my intention with all my posts in this thread...there won't be one and I believe that is because of the price range it would have to fall into, not a mechanical or engineering issue. It is a good deal, that's why I'm still shopping for one, but it doesn't change the fact that they definitely could have still made money on the twins selling at $23k-$24k, rather than $25k. At some point people will start saying "I can get X for the same price".
