Subaru/Scion warranty and autocross

If you are planning on autocrossing your 86/BRZ you should be aware of the following:

Subaru Warranty does not cover any Damage Caused Due to Use of Vehicle in Competitive Events
https://www.subaru.com/my-subaru/warranties-2011.html

Basically this mean if you attend one autocross and your gearbox fail 5,000 miles later, you might be out of luck.

And yes some manufacturers/dealerships do actively seek that type of information.
http://www.autoweek.com/article/20040705/FREE/407050725

Scion Warranty on the other hand apparently doesn't have such an exclusion, of course any failure that can be linked to an aftermarket part will void the warranty. Linked being a keyword, for example aftermarket shocks would not void your warranty if the the gearbox broke.
I got it this info from a Scion (Canada) rep but I would appreciate it if someone could confirm this.

In all of my time working at Toyota/Scion, I can't recall a single time we ever denied warranty to a customer because they used their vehicle competitively in the past. Unless it was apparent that what they did actually caused the damage to the car, which is what most of the statements from the various automakers in that article are saying.

What happened with that Evo/Mitsubishi is an interesting read... not sure how I feel about that.

Wheels can be linked to other things like diff, sus parts & break failures... I am sure they could link it to alot more if they wanted.

Don't know about track, but for autocross they just have to check the Autocross results and check names against their customer list, like Mitsubishi did a few year back (Second link in my first post).
From what I heard another tactic of some Mitsubishi dealers was to actually send someone to note down license plate of any recent Evo present.

Of course the counter measure, and I have witnessed it a couple of times, is to sign up for the autocross with a fake name and remove the license plate.

Subaru replaced your brake pads under warranty? I thought pads are wear and tear item?

I think that's because people do better in autoX with Subaru than with Scion. Scion was just embarrassed to say that they will void the warranty if autoX'd because then people will laugh at them for saying that because Scions get their a$$ kicked by Subarus and Miatas. But with the FRS coming, I am sure Scion will add that clause if they don't have it yet.

HPDEs are untimed events and are thus technically not competitive events. So going to the track should be fine. Autox is a different situation, but one in which nothing should fail anyway.

Yes, do not get timing and you will technically not be racing/competing.

It wasn't an isolated incident apparently more than one Evo owners had their warranty voided because they had attended an autocross.

I was told by scion that that inly way I could void the warranty is by doing internal modifications to the car. This would include turbo, nos, injectors, pistons, cams, etc... You get the picture.
