From what I learned, American older cars have lower rates than Japanese cars.

Super duper ragged on. It'd be cheaper to get the N/A shell and swap in a turbo motor, as far as insurance is concerned.

If you can't fit in a Miata, you might try an E36 M3. You can find them in good condition under $10k.

Looking at an 89 325iX right now. Probably wont happen with this specific one, but I really like it.

Just a thought process, but buy back the car. Find an AE86 and install the swap in that. You will need a proper stanalone to run it, Hydra would work well. I would actually like to do that swap to my 86 but will most likely end up doing a 1uz in it do to cost. Also sorry to see this happen hopefully you can some how make the best of a bad situation.

If they're that close, and it comes down not in your favor, just ask if they've considered "diminished value" at all. That'll put it way over their limits. They never do, and few people know that they can get paid for the decreased value of their car after an accident. Any number of online companies can handle the claim for you and this one is pretty cut and dry. Cutting a check to you for easily over $2,000 will push it over the limits for a total for sure.
