Official word from Akio Toyoda is that the 86 will continue on.

Motor 1 statement "We couldn’t wait that long, so we shot some inquiries to both Subaru and Toyota on the subject. A Subaru representative told us that a second-generation BRZ was previously confirmed, but the automaker is unable to discuss specifics about it at this time. It seems the BRZ will continue in some fashion, at least in name. Similarly, Toyota seems just as optimistic about the 86, though the company stopped short of saying a new model was in the works. Here's what a Toyota spokesperson told Motor1.com directly: "As Akio Toyoda said at the reveal of the 2020 Supra, Toyota is committed to building exciting vehicles, including sports cars. The 86 has been in the Toyota family since 2013 and the plan is that it will continue to be a part of Toyota’s sports car line-up." now car Scoops say - It doesn’t make much sense, so we contacted Toyota. And the answer we got from U.S. spokesperson Nancy Hubbell, reads as follows: “As Akio Toyoda said at the reveal of the 2020 Supra, Toyota is committed to building exciting vehicles, including sports cars. The 86 has been in the Toyota family since 2013 and the plan is that it will continue to be a part of Toyota’s sports car line-up.” See what is wrong with this? No? Well one of them is full of shit and just parroting the other or, they both received a pre determined response and just ran with it in different ways. THIS is why these websites lose credibility. Now motor one made a simple statement in an edit and left it at that but Carscoops went on to speculate that Subaru was still dropping out. There is nothing to support that but some other clickbait will now take that response and ad to it and make it "fact". [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dgmgub8mHw[/ame]
