Was the exhaust flow out of and over the hood ever factored into the Fluent models?

The exhaust flow was not modeled into the Fluent cases. There were a few reasons for this. First, this was a quick build so not a whole lot of development went into it. We only had a week for CFD development and the majority of that went into refining some of our best practices and yaw and ride height sensitivities. Given more time, that is something that we would look into. The issue is that the mass flow out of the exhaust would be steady and would be hard to estimate this flow given all situations. We would probably run it at the max flow rate, mid, and none to see how this would affect the results. I would assume this would cause the body of the care more lift. Not sure on its effects on the rear wing. |

Episode 7: Cooling system work and cutting of the trunk to fit the uprights. Episode 8: Received the dual element wing which is our own custom profile that works extremely well with our 300mm wing profile. We go over ducting of the cooling system in further detail and we begin bonding the front splitter. Let us know if you have any questions . Thanks, Eric |

Episode 9 is out! We show a lot of the front splitter being built and begin working on the flat underbody panels.
Picture of the flat underbody. We are getting close to finishing all the small odds and ends. Probably 3-4 more videos before the car is finished. Eric Last edited by VerusEric; 04-14-2019 at 09:53 PM. |

How do you guys deal with the engine bay interior? Is it assumed solid or is there a way to simulate flow through the radiator and out the vents? Or is it accurate in the solid model and CFD?

Engine bay we do not simulate. We will simulate heat exchanger stacks at times when it would affect items we are looking into. We did not simulate the stacks in this case as it would have been difficult. We do not have pressure drop data for the intercooler. We have the pressure drop data from the rad and could get it with the OC. If it had ducting out the hood and not into the engine bay, we might have simulated it (if we had data for the intercooler).

Not much on the splitter. It does affect overall drag though. Trends are still valid for A to B tests. Drag will be higher when you have any sort of heat exchanger added to the mix.

Front Splitter Recap Video:
[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja0lsoG3aZ8[/ame] Before it is asked, the bumper to the splitter will be sealed. Currently, our thoughts are to use heli-tape/racer's tape. Later on, FT86SF may do something here to improve upon the tape but tape will work for right now. FT86SpeedFactory did a recap as well with the car: Thanks, Eric |
