I think the point is was there something specific about the RS3 that you didn't like, even if it did perform better on track then the MPSS.

I am going to SX2s after my RS3s die because they seem to be a good learning tire. Decent grip (better then a daily tire but now a 200TW), great life, and good feedback to the driver, and good price.

With its new 260TW rating (iirc) I am hoping for it to be a little better then the Bridgestone S-04s that I ran previously and loved.

I'm just looking to give advice on improving your lap times, since that's what you were asking for.

Sorry if my question wasn't helpful, I used to want better tires too until I realized I wasn't improving as a driver by going with stickier rubber.

I witnessed another "cheater tire" scandal 10 years ago, lots of bitterness and accusations then as there are surrounding the Bridgestone's. How does that series cope 10 years later? That tire is now the spec tire. Bridgestone and BFG made a great tire for a single purpose, they succeeded, get over it.
There is no accusation being made in calling it a cheater tire. It is well established that it is a tire with a treadwear rating equal to an RS3 type of tire but behaves equal or better to an R-compound. It requires a point penalty in a series if the series doesn't want to force everyone to run it. Eventually more manufacturers will make a similar tire and then no point penalty will be required. The performance gap is just currently to large.

If those RE71Rs posted on this thread are done, send them to me. I pay for shipping.

We run ours to basically the cord as well.

Costco sells Re71 and provides Platinum Pact Warranty on those.
https://tires.costco.com/product.asp...1-e049c6c49f0c

I know for a fact someone who is on their 2nd set (got a good bit of pro rated discount). Aparently Costco honors the warranty 'ahead' of the manufacturer so the tires are not shipped out to the manufacturer awaiting information before warranty is applied. I have not tried it myself but know others who had with success. Do call and verify before purchase. Think its 12K miles or something.

So the wear argument is now moot

Hard to find a Costco that will do tires outside OEM size in my experience though

LOL what are you guys talking about the 'wear'. This was the rating on actual Bridgestone RE71R product page:

miles/kilometers driven on tires 32,000

PERFECT DAILY
These tires are perfect for my Honda odyssey, they save me so much on gas, I'm getting almost 2 and a half more to the gallon then with my previous pole position s-04's thanks you Bridgestone!

I would consider that morally objectionable.

It's like tracking on Autozone rotors and using their warranty to get free replacements.

Mike, I'm having trouble understanding how these were driven for 12 minutes over 5 heat cycles. That's less than 2.5 minutes per heat cycle. The previous owner said the laps were each 2 minutes. One cannot record the time for a full lap without nearly three full laps. That would mean if they have five heat cycles they would have been driven on for about 30 minutes minimum.
What am I missing?

My mistake; I should clarify. I drove on them for 12 minutes on my heat cycle. They're pretty overheated, and were well past their prime when I got them with 5 cycles already on them. Even in that far from ideal state, they still grained as in the pictures.

They will match tires that are currently on the wheels in my experience (as long as it's a reasonable wheel/tire combo), but they're a bit lazy on the wheel weights slapping on more than is necessary. Doesn't solve the problem of getting tires on the wheels in the first place, but can help keep costs down.

But I agree with Mike, I wouldn't feel good about 'warrantying' track tires (or rotors), abusing those programs is how they get eliminated and you end up with manufacturers not supporting their product when they really should.

Then name the penalty something without a negative connotation like "competitive street tire" or "time trial tire".

Some people have been pretty clear how they feel about the 'stones and BFG's. Not just 86ers or people on this forum mind you.

I agree. Have not will not. It is surprising that track tires are sold with wear warranty. But then I guess its a double edged sword for them; they do sell it as 200 wear tire hence the requirement.
