Why is it so hard to find a replacement FRS/BRZ rear bumper?!?

I bought my 2013 FRS from an action with a salvage title, thats where I've gotten all of my vehicles for the past 7 years and have never had a problem with them. I fix them myself at my fathers shop and i've never had a problem with finding parts.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to find this damn bumper anywhere other than the dealer. I've found a few on eBay but they end up costing the same as buying a brand new one from the dealer because of shipping (~$400-$500). You would think there would be a surplus of these lying around but I can't seem to find a single aftermarket company that makes them.

Anyways, thats my rant. Here is the damage on the bumper, I cant fill it because of the texture that the lower portion of the bumper has so I don't know what to do right now. Ideas?

I would check our forums ads. My pops and I are fixing a 15 ourselves and took time to source the hood and fender and I live in SoCal already.

I have little doubt that the other guy that has one in NM still needs it.

You may need to broaden your search and grit your teeth and pay the price they want.

The attached of course is far from all inclusive but things could be worse. You could be in Wyoming!

I don't see the problem here.

If you can find it at the dealer, buy it from the dealer. OEM bumper skins are usually the same price as aftermarket.

I agree. I have been waiting to replace by bumer cover to see if I could find a used in in good shape.

There MUST be a salvage yard that specializes in these cars that would have some, but I havent been able to locate one yet.

My dealer says it would be ~$700 for a new cover painted in GBS.

That is a very good deal. Usually it'll be around 500 just to paint it.

Brand new (primer) bumper cover from the dealer is only about $250.
$350-400 to paint it and ~$75 to put it on.

So you're saying its around(400+75) 475 to paint and install... plus 250 for the part which makes it like 725 dollars....

Without it installed you're saying it's like 650 dollars... so $50 dollars difference between pre-painted vs finding an independent shop to paint it. I'd still rather have it pre-painted so I don't have to lug a bumper around (to a body shop and back) and wait maybe 2-3 days for it to be painted.

I'm impatient so I'd rather have it pre-painted once I have the part.

That was the price quoted to me from the Subaru Dealer.
I drop my car off and give them $700 and pick up my car with a brand new bumper.

And since it is the dealer, they said they will have the GBS paint matched exactly or they will have it done until I am satisfied.

I know I could do it cheaper myself (but not byu much), but then I have to put it on myself and argue with a paint shop if they dont get it right the first time.

Nah, no way. Maybe in the most expensive of markets but on average more like half that to have a bare bumper painted.
