Not luck. Requires some combination of sales and marketing talent and work. Might require relocating to a marketable region (won't be easy if you're in, say, Alaska). Making it happen > watching it happen/suggesting someone was spoonfed to make it happen.

No doubt it requires work on its own. Being on the bleeding edge and selling yourself to the manufacturers and convincing them that you would be their best option, as well as making it happen takes time and effort.
