I think I read the installation procedure somewhere saying to lightly scuff the surface before applying the decal to ensure strong adhesion. If the installer follows procedure, the finish on your gas lid may look different than the rest of the body. You can risk it and if it does mismatch, just order a new stock gas lid (shouldn't cost more than $100 painted).

Are you telling me this is only a sticker that replicates a fancy fuel door.

Lame!

I really hope that isn't the case. Mine will have it pre-installed as well.

If it's lightly scuffed on the clear can't you just cut and buff? If they didn't scuff it that much, you can just peel it off, clean any remaining residue off, then buff. I'm guessing lightly scuffed means it's already sanded a little with very fine sandpaper, so all you gotta do is buff it out.

True. Only way to find out is to peel it. I would just hold on to it til I find someone willing to do a straight trade. Or post it up for sale and buy a stock one.

Or just have the current one repainted if its bad enough. Would that cost more than a replacement part?

Trust me, I'm not a fan of chrome but in the situation of the BRZ it does look better.

No way, wait for an actual chrome or carbon looking fuel door cover to show up on eBay.

Is anyone Japanese-literate? Here is the description of this piece from the Subaru Japan site (from http://members.subaru.jp/purchase/si...tor.html#t=brz but there's no direct link; you have to navigate to the 3rd tab in the 2nd row from the top):

レーシーなアクセントと、デコラティブな遊び心。触られる機会の多い給油口のガードにもなる、独特の質感と 厚みを持つハイボスカル製ガーニッシュ。ボディコーティング処理を施した箇所には装着不可。

Which Google translates to: "Lacey and accents, decorative playfulness. Haibosukaru garnish made with the mouth guard will also be touched fueling a lot of opportunity, a unique texture and thickness. To place the body treated coating can not be mounted."

I'm not sure what the boldfaced part means but it seems to describe how the piece can/can't be mounted to the body.

Painting that small piece could range between $50-$100 depending on who is painting and how well they can match the finish. IIRC I got a pre-painted OEM fuel door for my G35 for around $80. Even then the color doesn't always perfectly match but at least it's OEM plus you'll retain a sell-able chrome fuel door for someone else who might want it.
