it depends on how quickly you need the money.

in general, you'll get more money selling privately.

also, certain state tax laws have a trade-in incentive. i believe there's no trade incentive in CA though.

keep this in mind:

when you're ready to purchase the brz at a subaru dealer, the dealer pretty much has the upper-hand on the trade-in value. they know you want to buy the brz especially if you've already pre-ordered. also keep in mind that this car is pretty limited. the dealer really doesn't have any incentive to give you anything more than below market value for your car.

Thank you for the fast reply. I certainly want the most money I can get for the car and am aware about the trade-in incentive that my state do not have. My only concern is that I really don't have another car to commute with if I were to sell it now besides a gas-hog Sequioa.

Chee-Hu, that car should sell quickly as long as it's in good condition. Just time your ad placement within 2-3 weeks of buying the FR-S/BRZ

Thanks. I was thinking that as well seeing that people are selling the first gens with 100+k miles and salvage titles for $10-11k all day in CL.

The only thing I've done to the car is an Injen CAI. The car only has 1 super tiny ding.

I sold my 2004 Honda S2k for this car like 36k miles... I'm trading in my 2000 Dodge intrepid (everything is broken on this car!), hoping to get 500 for it from the dealer .

Post a hello in the 818 forum and let them know you have a potential donor up in Canadia. A lot of the 818 guys are driving their donors until the kit is available.

Trading or selling my 08 Evo X with sub 30k. Car has bolt ons and a tune with a boost pill making 330awhp @ 26psi. Probably my favorite car but gas mileage is horrible and I like change. Also looking forward to see the next generation Evo which might be some type of hybrid like the BMW i8.

I miss my SVX, that was an awesome car. If they ever make a successor to it, the BRZ may be what I will put down on the trade-in thread for that.
