I am cross shopping both cars. Club ND BBS/Brembo and a 2017 BRZ Limited PP.

Drove both cars in 2016 and was surprised how much I liked the BRZ. At 6'2" 195 lbs. I barely fit in a ND. The BRZ seats are great and there is a better driving position. Day to day use the BRZ wins easily. Gearbox is close on both cars except the BRZ isn't breaking trannies like the ND! Cost wise the BRZ Ltd. PP is around $1400 cheaper! The other issue I have against the ND is even with the Club people are swapping to stiffer sway bars and lowering springs to cut out some of the body roll in the stock ND Club. I liked how the BRZ cornered flat even in stock trim. The steering feel is better in the BRZ too.

Just my thoughts your mileage may vary. FWIW I have a 09 Civic Si Sedan I daily drive now. Great car but not a straight line rocket either.

Since day one, Mazda identified a market and built a car for that exact market. Those that were in the circle were happy because their perfect car had been built. Those that were not in the circle had nothing bad to say because the car did not apply to them in the first place.

Toyota and Subaru went for the shotgun approach. Starting with the fact that the chassis straddles two car companies, and pretends to be a 4 seater, they tried to appeal to a very broad segment of the buying public. By doing so, they are inviting critics from the same broad segment to post their opinions.

They are both good products, with the main difference being marketing vision.

As an aside, marketing people are opportunist so don't let all the "Too slow" noise distract you from the fact that ANY publicity is good publicity. The "Too slow" debate has kept the car in the public eye and I am willing to bet a lot of buyers have bought one after arranging a test drive to see just "How slow" the car really is.

I'm antisocial AF, I only go out to autocrosses and the occasional track day (likely no HPDE this year though).

We haven't already???

Makes sense that the 86 is better at high speed momentum courses, ND's advantages are torque, weight, and wheelbase.

The perfect summary!

I didn't go to school there. At the time I was a research representative for a large pesticide company and I was coordinating grant money with the chairman of the entomology department.

Where did you do your graduate studies .. ??

I haven't gone to graduate school and probably won't. Ah, pesticide. I'm guessing it's for the orange groves?

This article is the closest I've ever come to registering on Jalopnik just to comment that I agree with it. Miatas are great cars for their intended purpose but for the love of god I do not want to hear about them anymore....

Exactly. I love rev matching down to 2nd or 3rd. It must be because of watching Initial D and having to heal toe or rev match down consecutively through the gears hahaha.

Im REALLY liking this new gen ND Miata. Enough to seriously think about buying one. I test drove it last night and it is a freaking hoot!! Its definitely quicker from a standstill than an 86, handles, "gulp" as well if not better than an 86 and is a convertible. The problem is the price..over $30K OTD with any kind of options. Thats a bit (quite a bit) much for how little car you get...

Neat picture!

That hippie compound I spoke of had an interesting layout. As I recall it was located just a few blocks north of I-10. It was in a neighborhood of large 2-story houses on very large lots (for California).

I figured this place consisted of the "big house", where the owner of the citrus groves lived and a ring of migrant type housing where the permanent workers lived.

There was this hippie girl named Babs that lived there and ........ oh, never mind ......
