The '16 cayman gt4 and the '11 458 Italia (1:22.30) where all about 1 second slower than the '18 Model 3.

Hum.... did I read that right?

Sounds to me like the Alfa Gulia is the best bang for the buck.
The Quadrifoglio isn't without its issues after a few laps as well. While it doesn't have the same concerns as a Model 3, it is still a risky proposition for track days. I believe the common consensus is that it is a fantastic car, when it's working.

From what I understand the 4 cyl in the base and Ti don't have the same issues, but it is also an SOHC turbo 4 with an almost diesel-like 5500 RPM redline. Completely killed driving a car I otherwise loved.

Model 3 Price Drop

You can now get a base model for 35K + I think 1200 in destination and doc fees + taxes. - 3750 or so in fed rebate and whatever your state and utility offers.

We're not getting one. Not yet, at least. Maybe in a couple years when we pass the Forester onto my daughter. Anyway, a good car put together badly.

Yea, I'm more excited by what VW is doing with their upcoming MEB architecture and the J1 platform under the Taycan/ E Tron GT.

If I was in the market for an electric car, I'd wait a little longer for one of those cars. With VW's expertise, dealer network, and massive volume, it'l be a smarter buy at any price.

That's the word. Yet the streets here in the south bay are littered with them.

We have a lot of them here too. But we have way more Civics and those have much better build quality and materials.

Oh yeah, can't throw a stick in Fremont without hitting a Tesla.

I'd take a Model 3 over any Civic but the Type R. The Model 3 rides well and has plenty of room inside. Electric motors are great, and the performance version makes a CTR look dog slow. No waiting for a turbo spool or dealing with crappy ICE efficiency ranges. However, the CTR will outhandle the M3 and be more fun to drive on the boil.

Waiting on the Model Y or the wife might get a used Model X. The Model Y will probably be the right size for us.

This scheme smacks of Musk desperation given SEC investigations. It'll never happen after court challenges from organized dealer groups who will challenge based on entrenched franchise laws nationwide.

Porsche tried this back in the '80's and failed.

Dealer groups learned long ago that politicians are cheap to buy so had legislation crafted to protect themselves from attacks like this.

Besides, what sort of reception should an owner expect from a franchised dealer who invested capital in facilities, equipment and staff should a direct sale Model 3 arrives for a warranty claim?

Tesla's are fun to watch smoking everything in sight drag racing on YouTube, not so much smoking their owners.

https://electrek.co/2019/02/25/tesla...-door-handles/

I can wait a few more years for the fully electrified Toyota's arrival.

FWIW it's not a price drop - it's a new spec available at a price they've promised from the start.

The last round of changes were price drops, where they tried to offset a little of the tax credit change.

Not too fussed about lack of dealers, nor the political fallout - it'll be interesting to see how it plays out, though. I mean, where do you go to take delivery? I don't believe service is really dealer related, so that should be fine. And they already operate so differently from 'traditional' dealers, which have had a huge amount of political baggage already. Cost of maintaining a showroom is high though.

We buy everything else from Amazon, why not cars?

Model 3 Price Drop

I have a coworker with an S and they delivered it to his house. When it gets serviced they show up to the office in a flatbed and a loner S and when they are done his car comes back on a flatbed. They gave him a P100D as a loner once. We do have a showroom in town but I don’t recall him stepping foot in the showroom when he got his car.

Carvana delivers to your door, but that's used cars. Some traditional new car dealers will also deliver to your door on request (FatherInLawBuzzard was a car salesman for 30 years, and I went on a couple of drop offs with him).

My question on this is how sustainable is Tesla's repair model, if what you say is an example? What happens once the car is out of warranty? I'd burn through the limited bumper to bumper (4 years/50,000 miles) in less than 2 years. The drivetrain is a little better at 8 years and "infinite" miles for an new one. That might make it worth the cost.

The B2B warranty shows what little faith Tesla has in their coachwork though. I was actually expecting it to be higher just because that seems to be the way they work.

The Model X build quality and doors are deal killers. If they made the same sized SUV with regular doors, I'd strongly consider it. A bit big though. The Model Y should be good. By then there will be more EV choices, though.

X and S prices just dropped a lot. The P models dropped even more. If I were in the market for a super sedan, the Model SP100D is the way to go.

We love our I-Pace. Nobody is buying them, though. It's really the best overall vehicle I've ever driven. I'd buy another if we didn't already have 5 vehicles.
