opinions on exhaust setup
Hey all, I'm going to be picking a BRZ in the near future. I plan to wait until about July and by then hopefully the 2015 model will be out. Anyways my first mod will be an exhaust system and after watching 84048373626 exhaust videos on YouTube I have an idea for a set up I might like:
JDL or Nameless EL catless header (shouldn't matter?) Motiv ceramic coated OP Invidia catted resonated FP Tomei 60s resonated titanium single exit exhaust So in total there would be 2 resonators and 1 hi flow cat on a full 2.5" exhaust. My goal is to have a nice sounding performance oriented exhaust with NO RASP. I don't care much about drone or noise level, as long as it's not raspy. Does anyone have a setup similar to what I mentioned above with the tomei 60s? HKS EL Header with T1R Catback on Scion FR-S and …: [ame]http://youtu.be/Q2dhQgYaMtg[/ame] The above setup is the closest I could find to what I'm proposing, but I'm unsure the added raspy-ness from a titanium exhaust and possibly 1 less cat (unsure if the hks el in the video is catted) would make the car sound terrible. Thanks in advance for any input! |

I've got clips of the nameless header with a few different set-ups in my car journal, sounded absolutely awful with the HKS Spec-L catback.
You have to be very careful with selecting a catback, especially with EL headers. Also be prepared for the car to get VERY loud, most that have swapped out headers have inevitably ended up with the quieter systems on the market (Perrin resonated, Q300, stock muffler) for daily driven cars. If your goal is more power, then go ahead and get a header, but if your goal is a good sounding exhaust, the best I've heard were all stock header with everything else aftermarket. |

I'm kind of in the same boat in wanting the performance of EL but not wanting drone. I'm thinking 2 resonators and a high-flow cat will do but we shall see!
Currently I have on the way: HKS EL Header Nameless downpipe, with cat and resonator. Nameless 2.5" axleback (which will leave me the OEM midpipe with resonator) UEL headers sound absolutely amazing but my goal with exhaust is much more performance oriented. I'd love to see 190RWHP after a good tune! Last edited by Akari; 05-27-2014 at 04:58 PM. |

My opinion is simple, i'm a purest. Straight 3" from turbo to tip with a straight through muffler to reduce the exhaust note to a legal db limit (maybe not legal, but enough to not attract cops like flys on shyt).

Turbos quiet down exhaust a ton. 3" exhaust with an EL header, no cats and no resonators would be insanely loud, raspy and drone like crazy.

Agreed with @Decay107 - Headers will make your car freakin loud. I love the way my exhaust chain sounds, but am afraid that I will be screwed when i buy a header. For the time being I'm just allocating those funds elsewhere in my build and am slowly edging my way to dropping my car off at driftoffice and having an AVO installed.....
edit: Im running a Invidia Catless front pipe with Invidia N1 on stock header.

Thanks for the feedback, Im not sure how to thank posts yet lol. My main concern is rasp, I'm sure the system will be loud as balls but will this combination of parts be raspy as well?
There aren't any clips of full exhausts hooked up to a tomei catback, especially the 60S resonated model. |
