I'm at 1100 since last Saturday, I still haven't gone over 5k though. Perhaps tonight!

Was about to ask the same question... I'm at 250kms .... long way to go. I've touched 5000rpm for a sec when passing a slow moving car. I was told that the best break in was to vary rpm's constantly and not use cruise control. |

I do this during break ins (vary the rpm). I've heard it's better for the cylinder walls. This will be the third new car I will do this on. But as stated earlier, there are many different theories on what to do, if anything.

This car just loves to be redlined... it just invites you to take it by the scruff of its neck!

I took mine through the range since I got it, but never went above 6k. I wouldn't hold it at high revs, but I didn't shy away from taking it up into the rev range. I hit the 1,000 mile mark on day four of ownership.

Subaru recommended break in is required for long engine life and good performance. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just wrong. Period. |

I agree, and I myself am going through the break in period per those instructions. I was merely stating that it all depends on who you ask. I ask the manual since the engineers who built the engine said that was the break in process.

I think you should do the after break-in oil change alot of people said on here that it felt a bit more free revving afterwards and the less metal particulates in the filter and oil the better I guess.
