Be careful what you wish for...my wife's new Crosstrek leaves the radio on when the car is shutdown and switches it off as the door is opened, but the radio blares every time you get in the car and start it up...really annoying. Our dealer said it is the number one complaint right now with new purchases. Each to their own, I suppose.

ALL my cars’ radios have done that so I thought that was normal. Besides, I’ve made it a habit to always lower the volume before turning the car off so it’s a non-issue.

Unless you mean the car raises the volume up afterwards?

Haven't laughed this hard in a while. Just make sure you don't park too close to the curb otherwise you'll ram into it

I have a key instead of push start, but couldn't this be resolved with a capacitor on the Switched/acc power to the head unit? for oem head unit folks that would prob require a harness wired inbetween which would be a bit of work I guess.

Fair point.. but I like the mental image of ramming the curb more.

I can't imagine it's great for the car to be stopped in this abrupt fashion -- Anyone have general thoughts?

Sorry, I should been more clear...it goes to radio by default, so if you have been listening to an audiobook or music off USB, it still goes to radio when you get in the car.

I still see this as nothing but a minor annoyance but if it really bugs people they could just wire it into an always powered slot like old cars used to be. Many of my cars were like that but they were also AM only and took 3 or 4 minutes for the tubes to warm up before you heard anything. You had to always remember to turn it off though so probably still to much of an inconvenience.

I was definitely kidding. Don't do it.

I have done it in other cars accidentally, and once on purpose to stop one that was running on after being shut off. None of them exploded. However, there's a definite risk to the engine, clutch and transmission. If you stop an airplane engine mechanically, for instance by a prop strike, the FAA requires you to tear it down and inspect it for internal damage before you can put that engine back in service. The stakes are lower for a vehicle that doesn't leave the ground, but the damage potential is still there.

You saying my car has a radio?
How do you make this curandero mindscape manipulation occur?
There's an 0/l button that makes noises, but that's under utilized.

If you don't mind getting behind the dash and doing some DIY, just rig up a switch in-line with the power cable and route it to the battery instead. As long as the switch is on, the radio will be on.

You can always wire up 2 relays in sequence to keep the radio on until you open the door. Essentially create a feedback loop on the first relay, and the door trigger will release the loop. Wire that in series on the accessory wire and you're in business. Did it myself not too long ago.
