I was quoted at the job being a 4 hour job (this included replacing torn window molding) i dropped it off at 7:30 in the morning and was called at Noon to come get it. It's all dependent on how busy your dealer is and how early of an appointment you make.

my VIN# ends with 9169.. which is AFTER the product change effective VIN(9026) and I have this chirp noise coming from the engine. It's been little over a month since I got the car and I drove little over 1000 miles.

Would they not change my chirping parts?

Make enough of a case for it, complain to your dealer and call scions line and tell them whats going on. I don't see why not.

Will they not fix my crickets if I did a sound tube delete?

I had CEL for a whole day yesterday and even today until I gave it a car wash... It is gone now

That's a bad news. Makes me want to wait for a little while before I get this done.

Tagging @dsgerbc.

When my low fuel light was on last week I filled up with ethanol-free 93 octane for the first time. Chirp was still reproducible the next day. Yesterday I went to the dealer to start work on the TSB. We could not reproduce it even after I'd driven 20 minutes. My fuel prior to last week's fill-up must have not all burned up til a few days after the fill-up so I was running purely on ethanol-free 93 octane by the time I was diagnosing at the dealer. Master tech commented on how customers with other Subarus come in to complain about similar noises and he always finds it's due them filling up with some sort of alcohol mix (I interjected with "ethanol" which is the same thing). The manual specifies 10% ethanol max as a general guideline. But based on the master tech's experience, it seems like the lower, the better for these boxer engines. No work will be done on my car but they welcomed me to return if it ever happens again.

Is this issue only localized to our country or are owners overseas experiencing the same? I don't think anything's wrong with the pre or post TSB fuel pumps, folks.

It's all in the fuel.

Was your pump replaced before or after the TSB came out?

Not exactly sure what's aimed at me. I think there has been enough info to link chirp to ethanol. And yes, it's not instantaneously off once you put ethanol-free gas, it will take a couple of miles. And it doesn't come back right away after you put in gas with ethanol. Might take a tank or more.

The issue is - in some states there is no way to get 0% ethanol gas. And I don't think the new pump is the same, given that they isolated what was doing the chirp with 'certain fuel mixtures'.

Ethanol-based fuels aren't too popular around the world, if I had to guess w/o googling, I'd say Brazil would be prone to this chirp too.

Somehow I knew this would happen with the exact same parts and part numbers as before. I don't understand why toyobaru wouldn't revise the pump to operate quietly with e10 gasoline and update it with a new part number. This TSB nonsense just creates more headaches for owners and for their mechanics who will inevitably have to do this job multiple times to fix it.

Those of you who are having the TSB performed and having the same pump and rail assembly installed, MAKE SURE YOU CONFIRM THE CHIRP IS GONE AFTER GETTING THE ENGINE HOT (SPIRITED DRIVING) AND RUNNING E10 GASOLINE WHILE IDLING. No other conditions will create the chirp so please don't post that the chirp is gone before doing this.

EDIT: Okay so the Subaru TSB is finally out (thanks @rice_classic, and it DOES specifically state the cause of the chirp and the required new pump and parts, but the COUNTERMEASURE is stated to be a specific corrective method of REASSEMBLY of the whole system to control orientation of the plunger stopper in the HPFP. The Scion TSB did not elaborate on this when I read it!
