I’d say live with it, it’s a cosmetic issue you’ll never see if you’re not looking for it. If the seat bolster was collapsing that would be another issue alltogether.

Seriously, I always laugh out loud when someone on the forum asks advice on what they should do when they have a door ding, bug splatter, other minor problem and the response is "totaled".

That's why I love this forum.

I've been on the planet for 65 years now, and I've bought plenty of new cars, and really, I've never seen wear like this on a driver's seat in such a short time and in so few miles.

I take that back, way back in 1976, I bought a brand new Fiat X1/9. It was the fanciest new car I had ever purchased. It had factory air conditioning! The targa top came off and stowed in the front cargo area. I was working as a fast food manager for a national chain of hamburger joints, and there was a local parade, so I took off the top, and my assistant manager donned a Hamburger Hungry suit and stood up on the passenger seat of my fairly new sports car. We were positioned behind the elephant in the parade. While I was trying to drive behind this huge animal, working the clutch and trying not to overheat the engine, (and drive around all the circus animal crap in the road), my assistant manager was throwing out candy and coupons to the kids by the side of the road. At the end of the day, my fairly new passenger seat was completely torn apart - seams ripped and foam padding bulging through. So, I guess, that seat died sooner than this driver's seat.

By the way, if any of you old guys can name the national chain that had Hamburger Hungry as the spokesperson, you will win a free beer from me if you ever get up here to the frozen north.

Anyway, the service manager said he would talk to Toyota and find out if there can be anything done - I'm thinking that, at best, I might get a discount on a new seat cover.

My purpose of this post was pretty much to see if anyone else experienced this wearing of the driver's seat in such a short time.

Thanks again, and thanks for letting me walk down memory lane....

and letting me drag all of you along with me!
i call anything along these lines #humfrzstory

i'm old enough to know that # used to be called a pound sign, but young enough to be expected to have an instagram where i post pictures of anything i consume...

the bolstering is slightly different in these cars in that the hard part of the seat is creating the shape, where most other bolsters are shaped foam. so when getting in, there's less 'give' in the foam, but something's got to give, so it results in increased wear to the seat cover.

you could try driving naked for a while to minimize bolster wear. but that might wear other bits out faster. will definitely make traffic incidents more interesting.

Well, my 2013, with 25,000 miles looks a bit better than that. From what I see in your picture, it doesn't look to be unusually worn. If it bugs you, you might try lightly brushing the area with a solution of water and black dye. -

PS - I liked your story -

"By the way, if any of you old guys can name the national chain that had Hamburger Hungry as the spokesperson, you will win a free beer from me if you ever get up here to the frozen north".

PSS - How about the "Red Barn"? - I was born and raised in Ohio -

Mine did that at about 30K but hasn't got any worse after the following 100K so I am not bothered by it.

I loved the Red Barn but don't think we had any mascot in Canada.

Ya once I wore the initial fuzz off the underlying material was tough enough to hold up.
