What to cover in engine bay cleaning?
AFAIK the only thing you need to really cover is the alternator and the intake box as shown in the picture. Is there anything else I should worry about? I will not be hosing down the car heavily; only using a diluted ONR solution in a spray bottle and wiping down with microfiber in the morning when car is cold.

I would cover the fuse box and the battery terminals as well, just to be safe.

What do you cover them with. I've used cut up sections of garbage bag in the past but I'm sure there is an easier method.

Make sure the engine is cool though, that crap melts super easy.

Interesting. I never covered anything, I just made sure not to soak the air filter on my CAI.
Never had any problems. |

The big question is what are you using to clean the engine with, chemcial wise?
ONR is not the best at removing grease, it works well for dusting engines and in that case you don't need to add water to rinse. If you like ONR you might like Optimum power clean mix it up 3:1 get a horse hair brush and go to town. A light rinse and towel dry with ONR. Dress with a NON oilly dressing. Cheers, greg

I would not use simple green, it will mess up your alum pieces. I would suggest you use something like Optimum power clean mixed 10:1.
Cheers, GREG

Quick question, I used my nail to pry off a stubborn sunbaked sap and it left a permanent indent in my opticoat/paint. If I clean it off with something like optimum power clean by slowly wearing it away would it prevent something like this or is the damage already done?
