Will be able to let you know about how loud it is after this weekend. I have a Map Performance 3" exhaust and a Burns SM-300-450-27 sitting in the garage ready to be welded. Just need to pick up some material this week to make a fixture first.

I've been pretty happy with my Perrin 2.5" resonated CBE on my single HFC setup. At one point coming home from a track day I thought it had gotten louder, but hard to say and no issues since then. Probably 25-27 track days on it. If/when it comes time to replace the muffler, there seem to be a good number of single central inlet, dual outlet mufflers out there. I'll just have a shop weld a replacement in.

How do you pull them apart to repack them? How much will that add to price to have a couple of Vbands on both sides? etc

A quality muffler is going to take thousands of track miles to fall apart. I bet in the time it'd take you to replace one, even 2, TR&D muffler, you'll still be money ahead and will have likely moved on to a different car.

Great discussion. If the exhaust tips were attached to the removable muffler end, like in the Invidia N1-type design, it would be very easy to service (BOE exhaust for lotus Elise is set up this way but with a single larger can).

My q300 with open el header and high flow cat fp changed its tone (got louder but not loud) after just a few track weekends but it's only now starting to get a little raspy, after over 20 track days and 10k street miles. I wouldn't mind paying good money for an exhaust that can be repacked for $50 as soon as it gets noticeably louder, in 30 minutes or so.

Two q300 cat backs cost about $1300 and should last 2+ years with heavy track use. They are as quiet as it gets and good shape for aero.

I am way past the decision of liking this car, spending good money on upgrades, and wanting to keep it as long as it will have me.

Agree that people who don't track much or don't run on tracks with sound restrictions or want to switch to another car shouldn't bother with this and most other upgrades.

If ace releases the baffled (and not packed) muffler and it's not too loud or too expensive, then that may be the winning ticket. Hope they release it soon.

Ordered Blitz Nür-Spec VS from @FRSport.com thanks to the brand mention by @mav1178 and further research. Should be plenty quiet. Will update post after install and couple of track days.

Still keeping an eye on the ACE muffler that's in development.

I'm also adding Magnaflow 14156 Race resonator ( https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=14156 ) in series with the Flowmaster.

I wanted two different types of mufflers to cancel out different frequencies. The whole setup is 12.8 lbs, but you deduct the weight of the resonator that will be removed.
I first used a Magnaflow 18146 as a resonator. It blew out within a matter of weeks. It seriously didn't even last a month, so I replaced it with a Magnaflow 10426 resonator. It blew out in within 6 months and became a loud resonant chamber, instead of a resonator. And now, less than 10k miles total on the resonator, the perforated core is coming apart and I can hear it rattling around inside the muffler.
I don't plan on ever using another Magnaflow. I've contacted them multiple times for a warranty claim, and I have yet to receive a response. I am so unhappy I am planning on replacing my resonator with a vibrant, and my rear Magnaflow(which is still in perfect shape) with a Flowmaster.

Haha, no disagreement here. I initially installed Magnaflow 10416 in series with the Q300 round resonator in the midpipe, because the car got loud. This was in January this year. And here I am 5 months later with the car loud again.

The Flowmaster HP-2 works for sure though, I had it on my autocross Civic for years. Also the 14156 Magnaflow is from their Race line and has a different packing material (steel mesh between the perforated core and the acoustical packing)

I hate to break it to you, but the Race series are exactly the same construction as the stainless performance series. They are all stainless mesh wrapped cores packed with rockwool. They're only called "race" because of the smaller sizes.

I've been looking at using an Aero resonator too.
Racingbeat makes the best mufflers ever. They have to in the rotary world. I was working with them on a custom resonator due to the small area we have to work with, but they might not make my time constraints.

Well that's disappointing, especially considering how expensive their race series is compared to the regular ones. I can't even send it back, since they had metal burrs sticking up inside the muffler that I cut off with Dremel. I have a pack of Bristol Core Spec 31 packing fibers, so I think I'm going to cut my Magnaflow open later today and re-pack it with that.

I used one of these on my old FB trackcar, and I was told "if you manage to blow this out, you can put it through our front window when you return it." Needless to say I handed him my CC. It was still going strong over a year later when the car was parted out.

Well I took it apart and like you said nothing but Rockwool and a little bit of mesh to keep it from falling into the pipe. I can't believe they charge nearly double the price of a regular resonator and keep the internals the same.

I re-packed it with the Spec31 and it was much stronger material. Tou can't pull the strings apart by hand.

Wow, the price is decent, it's 304 SS...that's awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Finished my exhaust on Sunday. Actually sounds quite a bit better than I thought it would being NA with a 3" (turbo in the works ) Zero rasp or drone and I think it will easily pass at Laguna. Idle and highway cruising sounds about the same as stock. I have the stock front pipe and an Ace Type-A 350 header.

And wondering why Burns stainless is so expensive? Check out the core versus the magnaflow posted above. Smaller holes and a much higher density meaning more sound being absorbed by the packing material and less packing material leaving the muffler. But inevitably a much higher manufacturing cost.

Very good feedback on custom options, thank you. Hope manufacturers take notice. I wish we has a rebuildable muffler option. Just hope that customization doesn't push the cost too high for us who would have to pay someone else for metalwork.
