It was and it wasn't. Some lady had "GT86" on her 1986 Mustang GT but the plate expired back in April and she didn't renew them because she sold the car. Ohio won't issue the plate # to someone else until it's been expired for over 1 year.

Not sure if you got yours already. But to answer your question: Yes, you need to take your old ones in and exchange them for the personalized ones.

Well, the good news is that you can pick up the plates next may! Well, if you don't mind spending the extra money. Ohio is stupid in that they renew in your birth month, which means if you order new plates outside of your birth month, you get charged again when it comes time to renew, which means you may pay twice for registration in the same year

Yeah, but you can only have one personalized plate per state.

Where I used to live in KS it was one per county, because they put a two character county abbreviation in the upper left hand corner.

This is long overdue, but I named my car C'thulhu since it has sown chaos across town and devoured my thoughts. Hence....

Georgia does that too. I hate it! Illinois was so much better when it came to license plates (Minus the needing a front plate BS)

We have run into so many problems here with the insurance commissioner and plates. However, we now have a new one since we got the FRS and are just a few witty ideas away from applying.

I think it was +500 for the plates, what are you guys paying in the states?
Everything is more expensive here.

I paid $500 for 10 years in Texas. I could have paid $450 for 5 years or $350 for 1.
