I always hear people argue that they only want reps because they can't afford real deal wheels, but there are good companies like Enkei that make good quality wheels at just around the same pricerange as reps and they have a ton of different styles. the tuning lineup is flow formed the best quality you can get for ~$1000 for our cars, and the other regular lineup (which is regular cast) is still really really good for ~$7-800 which puts it right in the same money ballpark as trash like rota or xxr. they are also plentiful enough that you can always seem to find like raijins or rpf1s on the used market.

Lmao is the issue with reps their build quality or are people flaming them because they're replicas and come at a cheaper price?

The main thing with reps is the weight. If you're changing wheels out, look for at least the same weight, if not lighter. I got 720Form wheels, and have seen a few others running them too. A 17x8 weighs around 15.5 lbs and is flow formed for strength. They are also very affordable, right around $200 Canadian per wheel.

I have had reps. Buying a wheel from an online shop is risky, IMO. I had a company send me 3 wheels that matched a one wheel with the wrong offset. it stuck out 1.5 inches! Took me 6 months to get them to replace it with the correct wheel.

Additionally, there are wheel brands that are budget priced and are still nice quality. I have Konigs. They have 5x100 in 8, 8.5 , 9, and 9.5 widths with acceptable offsets and decent weights.

My 18x9 +42 weighs 20lbs and cost under $700 for the set.

I would check out Koing's Flow formed wheels. Some of the wheels come in 17x9 and are in the high teens in weight for under $200 a piece. NOT BAD!

I would have bought the 17x9 GTF1 from 720Form wheels, but shipping from canada made the wheels cost $1100 total. These were my first choice two years ago when I bought wheels.

Main issue is weight and the quality control. If your not putting on super skinny tires and taking it to the track you will probably be ok.

Like others have said there are quality wheels for the same price like Konig and Enkei

Appreciate the responses not just bashing on reps haha. Any recommendations for budget friendly brands such as konig? I'll take a look into them

i mean, enkei and konig offer extremely affordable flow formed wheels. i wouldnt get cast wheels. my friend just got a set of cast wheels, i wont say from what brand, but one of them was bent during shipping and had to be sent back. couldnt even survive the trip to the front door...

im partial to Enkei, but thats just my style, i just got a set of forgestars too, which are also affordable flow formed wheels, albeit more expensive than enkie

then keep the wheels you have... if you're so broke, reliable transportation should be the priority over looking good.

but in the same breath, you're here because you're driving a $15k-minimum vehicle. when i was a broke student, my only transportation was a $1200 car that at any given time, needed $1k worth of mechanical work. it was consistently 2 sharp stabs of the brake and a sharp turn from completely falling apart. but it started (almost) every time.

I've been daily driving my Rota wheels for the past 2.5 years during the warmer months, including 2000+ miles of road trips, and zero issues so far.

Compared to a genuine brand like Enkei (I have a set of Enkei Compe for winter and had a set of Enkei RPF1 in the past), the most noticeable difference is in the finish/paint quality.

Finish, quality, weight, are often of lesser quality with reps.

I don't understand people who say they want reps because they can't afford real wheels and at the same time get defensive about it thinking that people say reps are bad just because they're cheaper...

First of all, if you can't afford real wheels you can't afford wheels, save your money and use it for things that will seriously affect the quality and outcome of your life more than swapping wheels on your car.

Secondly, generally speaking you get what you pay for in pretty much everything, and that's especially true in aftermarket car parts. Rep wheels are cheap for a reason. That reason is that they skimped on R&D and Engineering, which are major costs to real wheel manufacturers. Even assuming a rep company's manufacturing is up to snuff and their QC is good, because they're not making their own original designs and performing the serious engineering themselves, those wheels are going to be inferior in quality, reliability, and performance to real wheels. You get what you pay for. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Thirdly, real wheels are not that expensive. Real wheels are not just forged, some companies also produce flow-formed designs which are more reasonable in cost. You can get Wedsport TC105X or Enkei RPF1s for a marginal increase in price over trash-tier reps. And honestly forged wheels for this platform are pretty cheap because we don't need to run huge wheels. A set of forged 17x9 wheels from a reputable company will run you less than $3k if you know where to look.

So, I reiterate. If you can't afford real wheels, you can't afford wheels. Save your money and buy them later, or better yet use that to fund something that will provide a significant long term positive impact in your life like funding savings for emergencies, eliminating debt, paying for your education, or buying long-term hobby or skill assets like tools and equipment. Modding a car is not a financially sound decision, so it's something you should do when you are in a financial position to do it correctly and without any negative impact on your life.
