Best phone mount?
I have a 2013 BRZ Limited. What's the best phone mount? Trying to find something that's very sturdy so I can use it at the track.
Thank you! |

Beatsonic phone mount. Pricey but it attaches BEHIND the dash trim so that's pretty much guaranteed to stay. You actually pull the trim off, pretty easy to do, fit the mount on and put the trim back on.

Here's a good thread to get you started. From what I've seen, if money's not really an issue, ProClip and RAM Mount both seem to be very sturdy options.

It's too dark now to take pics. Got it from Amazon. I stuck the ball piece right around the middle of that 3" (or so) plastic section between the stereo and the airbag cover. The phone piece (with "steelie" print on your pic) is attached to a hard case (not the phone). Just don't get a case with a pattern (or the 3M may not stick well) and don't hold your wallet/credit cards against the magnetic phone piece.
I use this iPhone 6 case: http://www.amazon.com/LUVVITT%C2%AE-...NTY-Absorbing/ The magnets are strong enough to hold the phone in place. I always have the charging cable plugged in when I'm driving (Waze app running), but even without cable it didn't move at all. I track and ax and daily drive my car and I never had it fall or noticeably change position. Easy access to radio and glove compartment. Tried a few different things...this one stays. Can't record videos with Harry's Lap Timer when phone is mounted this way, but you can run HLT to record data in this position (and monitor lap time) while using GoPro with a RAM suction cup mount attached to the middle of the rear window (to capture the track, your steering, shifts), then merge data and video later to get something like this [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqXcT4oElek"]NJMP Lightning 2014-07-20 NASA HPDE 2 Run 3 Scion FR-S SC - YouTube[/ame] (me driving slow at the track) |
