I got the new TSB performed with the new pump. The chirps now sound almost like a whistle. I've given up.

E85 requires tune. I'm assuming guys with 91/93 tunes still have crickets?

I've been wondering about that as well. My latest running theory is that it's not the alcohol itself in E10, but rather the water absorbed by that alcohol.

Maybe E85 producers/distributors/vendors are aware of alcohol's hydrophilic properties and handle their product accordingly while, without specific regulation, the rest of us schmucks get a healthy dose of water-saturated ethanol with our gasoline. It's a theory.

I figure if I make some E10 by correctly diluting E85 with E0 and manage to run without waking the crickets, my theory might sprout some legs.

Another possibility would be to make some E10 from scratch by adding something like this.

http://luminaproducts.com/wp-content...DS-6-30-14.pdf

...still mulling it over.

So what are the current temporary work-arounds for the crickets, while staying on 91 gas?

I guess its safe to conclude that performing the TSB and replacing the fuel pump doesn't help.

It may help for a while, but the crickets always find their way back home.

There is no 100% effective fix. Some people have had good luck with various additives, different fuels or TC-W3, but the results are not consistent. You can try them and see if they work for you, but remain pessimistic and you will not be disappointed when they don't.

How did they manage to scratch the cluster? Replacing the pump is entirely under the hood.

And yes, that's a vapor line.

I had my HPFP replaced yesterday at the dealer who swears it was done with a recent pump. They had to search around the country for a specific washer. I am assuming this might be a new/different washer than what has typically been put in.

The good news - cricket is dead for the moment. Dealer is very confident that the problem is solved permanently. I will post back if it returns.

It will return. Your dealer is just as dumb as all of them.

Are you saying the crickets come back at full volume? I put on 2K miles after TSB install (running same gas with ethanol) and don't hear them anywhere near as loud as before. Yes they are there, but now at least they're hard to hear from inside the car (no whistles or other new noises).
