So the 7000 looks like it is made for a single din. Wouldn't I need an adapter to fit out double din? The 8000 has a more adjustable bracket.

I can't tell if the 8000 would even fit the space, but I like the adjustability.

I don't think you'd need a bracket. Should be included in the radio as an "L bracket" which mounts to the side of those holes there.

It's a single din because they removed the room for a CD Slot, which to be honest I've never used in both HU I've had in this car for 7 years. Hell, even the custom PC's I've built for 10 years I don't have a CD tray anymore.

@Yoshoobaroo installed an AX5000 so he has more experience and can probably answer your questions or has pictures. He did say the crutchfield harness he bought was truly plug and play.

For my pioneer HU, I had to splice wires with a metra wiring harness, use a different HD radio antenna wire, different USB connector in the little cubby, and brackets on the side of the radio to fill in the extra spacing.

Here is a link to Fastmoto that lists all the 200mm head units that they have available:

https://www.fasmoto.com/ICE/head-unit/head-unit-200mm

I don't think any of these are North American market units but they can be had from eBay, etc.

Oddly, the 8000 is resistive and the 5000+7000 are capacitive, and even though the 8000 is 2'' larger, the resolution is the same (both are 800x480). It looks like the 7000 is identical to the 5000, but it has a built in amp with 100wt vs 55wt.

Thanks. I saw that when I did a google search. The thing that sucks is that the Pioneer unit is non-capacitive and the Kenwoods are RHD.

I suppose I could live with the RHD more than I could live with bezels on a DD unit.

The Kenwood does look appealing in features like a high-res/capacitive touch screen and ability to do Bluetooth/Wifi (something) AppleCarplay, which fits most of my wishes, but will it work in America fellas?...

So the other thing I was thinking was that if this has steering wheel controls (and I don't on my car--MY13) then perhaps I could wire up a volume knob and mount it somewhere closer.

I also realized this has gesture controls too, so I could just set the volume to gesture controls. Hmmm, tempting. If that doesn't work out then I could add a volume knob to the dash, or to the plastic key insert that isn't used because my car has a push button.

That's the plan, but I want to narrow down the HU choices. I'm leaning towards this Kenwood unit because it has all the features I am looking for besides LHD compatibility, but I need to see if there is an adapter available.

There are generally only two regional compatibility issues:

1. Does the AM/FM receiver select the correct center frequency when tuning stations? Usually a config setting.

2. If the head unit has a DVD player, is it coded for the correct DVD region? U.S. and Canada are region 1.

Otherwise, metric threads and 12 volt DC power are pretty universal.

I rarely listen to the radio because I live in a location where HD radio is rare and spotty, so standard radio sucks, and I hate commercials, so I generally listen to Pandora or my own MP3s. There is also radio apps to gain access to local stations through the internet, so for all these reasons, this isn't my concern.

Correct. This would be region 3. I would not be interested in playing DVDs in my car, but I would want the option of a CD play, which this unit does have that option.

Something like this mounted somewhere on the dash or in the plastic ignition cover:

If you decide to get a standard double din radio (not 200mm wide), don't get the craptacular Metra dash kit. It's ugly and you have to modify (cut) to fit with the radio bracket.

I just installed a radio and used the BRZ dash kit (Subaru part #484-001-024).

After using three Pioneer 2 DIN radios I have finally settled on this cheap Chinese Android head unit. I love the look. It looks like a modern factory Toyota radio. I also love the rotary knobs. Initially I had problems with bluetooth A2DP music skipping when the radio was connected to my phone’s hotspot. All that changed when I got the carplay dongle - I don’t even have to use my phone’s hotspot or even connect to bluetooth anymore. I can make calls and send messages by just being connected through the lightning cable. There’s a wireless Carplay dongle but I settled for the wired version. I currently have the dongle connected to the stock usb port but this weekend I’ll be relocating it inside the dash, placed in between the radio and factory usb port.

Sorry for the crappy photo. The forum has a pretty low image size restriction.
