Titan 7 wheel install

I just tried to mount a set of 18x9.5 Titan 7's and it didn't go so well. I have ARP wheel studs that are 1.75" long which I believe is a bit longer than factory and 949 Racing lugs.

The studs don't seem anywhere near long enough to accommodate the wheels. Also once I get the wheel onto the studs it just seems to get stuck when it's halfway on. The holes are large enough for the studs but something is preventing me from pushing the wheels all the way onto the studs.

Any advice?

I was being stupid and forgot to remove some little plastic pieces of the hubs from old 949 wheels. Got them on but the length of the studs has me a little nervous. Will probably switch to longer ARP studs before tracking. Was able to get about 8 to 9 turns by hand with the lugs. I counted how many lug threads were sticking out past each stud once torqued and counted 16 for the old setup and 18 for the new. For some reason looks like more. What's the general rule of thumb to be considered safe?

General rule for fasteners is that it has to engage the same amount as the diameter of the bolt
