Rumor has it the 0-100-0 test was created by Euro car companies back in the day to prove their cars were overall superior to the American "ground-pounding" counterparts.

It tests the full performance range of a vehicle. On the street you need to be able to stop quickly regardless of your speed. If your brakes can't handle stopping you from 150MPH can they handle you at 75MPH?
Also, it's just fun. Are there any of us that wouldn't do this "for science"?

But it was the American Shelby Cobra 427 that held the record for basically...ever. Nothing from Europe.
