Ugm…. fuel economy regulations would be my guess. Increases overall gas mileage by 0.03% or something like that.

I've driven a recent year Volvo with it and you couldn't really tell it was working it was so smooth and quiet. In the F150 there is a noticeable delay between lifting your foot off the brake and when the truck has started.

I guess manufacturers hitting their Corporate Average Fuel Economy numbers is more important than engine longevity.

This just occurred to me. It's supposedly a no-no to sit in neutral when traffic is stopped, allegedly because the vehicle can't be quickly controlled should the need arise, but it's ok if the manufacturer designs some shitty device to kill the engine every time the vehicle is stopped.

Makes perfect sense for a hybrid but for a conventional drive train? With a conventional starter motor? SMH

The old peace and love flower power group from the 60s is now the group yelling at you to get off their lawn.

The systems vary. I don't know about the one I'm driving now, but from reading up on it after I drove the Volvo, most have some level of upgrade on the starter, etc. Some even go as far to have a second battery just for this purpose, or a capacitor of some sort. I'm relatively confident the one in this Ford though has none of that.

Wait, it is? Sounds really dumb.

First of all, no amount of reaction time is going to move you out of the way of some uncontrolled vehicle. Second, your in a truck, you'll be fine when the world goes to shit around you for most definitions of shit.

Sometimes, I question my work's firing employee process. To fire employee who's still under probation (which happened this wk), need to get a signature from the manager. After that, manager or supervisor AND someone almost equal level of supervisor to be there to give that paper to release the employee. BUT to fire employee who's not in probation anymore require not only manager's signature, but also HR manager AND director's signatures on that paper. If department manager or supervisor getting fired, sure make sense to get signature from HR manager &/or Director... but we're talking bout entry level position. Even in my level, I don't think need Director's signature to get released... but that's just me.

Incompetence is never a good enough excuse to remove someone... if you're really bad it only secures your position as is evident in the person holding down the highest job in the land!

So, note to self, if you ever want to go down in a blaze of glory, fire a bunch of folks without proper signatures as I'm sure that's an immediate firing offense.

I've always joked that just to show how ludicrous some of this is, if I ever win the lottery I wasn't going to quit, I was just going to come to work with a completely different attitude and see how long it took them to fire me. It would be worth it for the entertainment value alone.

Hmm... maybe that's the basis for a new reality show, instead of Undercover Boss, maybe Undercover Ineptness.

My boss and I have had this conversation. I think I've said before, but the way he worded it is that winning the lottery would greatly increase his honesty when dealing with some coworkers.
