Ya but which one would you want to try to outrun?

Probably the Mustang, there’s a good chance it’ll crash into a crowd before catching up.

My Golf R buddy shared some ideas of what he's looking for in another car to buy, here's what he said. Figured I'd see if you guys had any good ideas.

-high fun factor
-decent power
-quality build
-would be used for only one or two drives per week
-maintenance expenses that aren't excessive
-manual transmission
-max purchase price of $8k
-no American cars

Something that's fun for the occasional drive, wouldn't be a daily driver unless necessary, doesn't need to have the lowest miles or the best of everything.

My first answer would be Miata as well as my second and third answer. Here's a few I just found on Craiglist that sorta fit the criteria. For the ones listed above $8k I figure he could negotiate to where he wants it.

1998 E36 BMW M3

2004 Mazda RX8

1998 BMW Z3M

2001 AP1 Honda S2000

2007 BMW 335i

That's actually a pretty tall order for $8k. He either needs to bump that up to around $10k or lower expectations (ie power, quality build or no American cars)

Example: the Miata probably ticks all the boxes except for "decent power" or a relatively clean C5 Corvette would be a good candidate except for the "no American cars" stipulation.

Knowing that he's got a Golf R, is he looking for a different "experience"? so nothing AWD/FWD or in a hatchback form?

Is he interested in bikes at all? For that budget, you can really get a great bike as a second "fun" vehicle.

Off the top of my head: BMW E36, MR2 Spyder, Boxster, 944, Saab 900 turbo
