Organic clutch?

My ultimate plan is to have at most 300 WHP with either Innovative SC or AVO turbo. I am trying to research a clutch to get and seems the most DD friendly one will be a full face organic. I read quite mixed reviews on FX 300 and ACT. Some say its an easy DD for stop and go traffic while on each one there are others that say the opposite lol.

So PLEASE help me in my research. Is there any kind of unbiased review somewhere so I can get some real data.

Just for info the car will be a DD, say 10k miles a year and track day every 1 or 2 months. I don't drag/street race/clutch drop but I definitely wind through the gears after an easy launch or downshift on the highway. And track days would be tracks not autocross so no launching there either.

Once my FX300 was broken in it became DD friendly. It also preformed amazing at VIR, highly recommend it!

If you're just DDing, stock will be fine.
Ive just been beating on my sc setup, and it is holding. That includes dumps of the line, clutch kicking 2nd.
I'm not running big dumb wheels / tyres though.
Because I'm putting a fly in next week, that has just turned up today, and because I am doubtful the clutch will handle 3rd gear kicking/slamming, I am going to go full face organic exedy kit.
So can come back to you about how that goes.

But sounds to me like you should stick with stock for now.

To clarify, my stock one still hasnt slipped, despite the above driving antics.

On AVO kit at 8psi the stock clutch lasted me a few months of hard hills driving.

ACS/AVO heavy duty plate & organic disc was fine at that power but at 12 and above including some track days it also started to go.

On the Bullet SC kit with stock pulley on 98 the oem clutch has held up ok for a couple of months now for my bro. ~175rwkw with ~115 baseline on dyno dynamics.

Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch. Holds 319 ft/lb tq. Feels stock, absolutely loved it. Cost is about $400.

I think the 319 ft/lb rating is a typo.

This is more like it...

Details:
Exedy Scion FR-S, Suabru BRZ, and Toyota GT-86 Stage 1 Clutch Kit

EXEDY organic racing clutches only use premium friction materials that are resistant to slippage and burst. Increased clamp loads give the necessary capacity to handle modified engines. This is the preferred clutch for street and light horsepower track use. Drivability is similar to the stock clutch. Pedal efforts will be slightly higher because of the higher clamp loads. All of our Stage 1 clutch discs have spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock.

Ultra-Fiber Organic Disc
-EXEDY Exclusive Friction Composition
-High Heat resins bond friction fibers
-Unlike competitors, EXEDY friction material has no need for steel backing to pass SFI burst test
-Maintains drivability of an OE-style disc
-Heavy Duty oil-quench hardened damper
-Heavy Duty rivets retain clutch material

Torque Rating:
203TQ @ Wheels
254TQ @ Flywheel

Kit includes a Flywheel.

Just to add complete specs to the discussion.

OP was looking for an organic clutch for his DD. IMHO, this clutch is the perfect option for someone pushing 300whp. He would not have to deal with a stiff pedal and it retains its OEM characteristics. An added bonus is it comes with a new flywheel.

Thanks! The important part here is that if you plan to push 300 whp, you will go over 203 WTQ which will in turn mean the clutch will not hold up.

When in doubt call the manufacturer. I'm pretty sure @ptuning wouldn't recommend it as an add-on to their kit if it wouldn't hold up.

Most certainly. Maybe the 203/254 are the typo.

Thank you for all the info guys. I'm kind of leaning to Innovate SC with 70mm pulley and waiting for intercooler. From what I have seen so far probably would end up around 275whp and 225 tq. (optimistically lol)

I will hope to score a ride along with someone with a fx300 and act hdss

those are the correct numbers but i think ptuning did some testing and found that it would hold way more tq than what it said on paper. dont quote me though as im to lazy to look for the post to verify

Looks good. Oh wait, no it doesn't for 300 whp and 250 ft-lbs.
