As a fairly aware, self taught individual who was driving stick for years across multiple vehicles before buying a twin, as well as being one of the earlier adopters of this mod, I can say without a doubt that it was not out of frustration that I removed the spring after owning the car for a whopping 3 hours of driving, nor was it a placebo effect that had me back to clutching smoothly as second nature to driving versus starting off guessing as to where the bite point is with zero feel.

I investigated the issue, and removed the only difference between my twin and literally every other car I had driven; The clutch pedal assist/return sprung.

You are, of course, welcome to go through the process of putting the spring back in to verify exactly what effect it has on pedal sensation transfer, but I stand by my statement that this is the single greatest, easiest drivability modification one can perform on their new (to them, at least) twin.

It's good that you find such pleasure in the fact that a mod that you greatly enjoy is so doable.

But at the same time, a number of people are going to have more desire to sit on an anthill than mess around with their clutch hydraulics on a brand new car. Especially given that the setup does involve increased pedal effort that discourages a stiffer pressure plate, essentially nixing any plans one may have for better torque capacity.

Personally, I'm not planning on increasing clutch stiffness, but I also deal with apocalypse grade traffic five days a week, and would rather have less feel over more stiffness. I've done Atlanta with a heavy duty clutch and you couldn't pay me to do it again.

You've made a solid case for your route, and I acknowledge that it's going to be the preferred route for some people. I'd just ask that you relax on posting it repeatedly, and stop repeatedly insisting that the clutch spring removal is negligible, regardless of how eloquently you word it.

I haven't been clear about the fact that I've driven a couple with the spring removed. I haven't reinstalled mine because there isn't much difference in pedal weight, my wife is fine with it, and it's a bitch to reinstall.

This doesn't make sense. If someone is concerned about increased pedal weight in anticipation of adding a heavier clutch, why remove the spring in the first place?

Reinstalling the OEM cylinder would also be much easier than reinstalling that spring.

I think I've advocated my point to the best of my ability so, unless anyone has any questions, I'll politely take a seat. Thanks for understanding.

Seems like this whole debate can be summed up easily.

Good - Stock
Better - Spring removal
Best - Master change

And, when the same question/concern gets asked 1,000 times, then the same recommendation is given 1,000 times. If people bothered to read a whole thread (or even any thread in some cases) then people would not keep repeating their recommendations. The guys that are here all the time may think something is repeated too often but to the new guys that don't bother to read before they type, it is all new and shiny.

I agree with this, everyday there's a new thread about something that's been discussed to death. As far as your list, being someone who couldn't get a smooth shift out of the stock setup and then did all 3 clutch adjustments at separate times, to me it's what you listed, but with the pedal lowered also.

Now this is all subjective of course. Some people love the stock setup!

Nuh uh!! got myself some garage time the other day and went for it. Night and day difference. While it is still vague it's a ton better than it was, and easy to keep up with as a 'normal' manual transmission clutch.

I'm in love with my car again.

Great mod, definitely a must-do. Picked up the car yesterday and almost stalled a few times because clutch seems vague. Now its much better.

Thanks to everyone for the info.

Broken record post - super easy and much better feels great.

It very hard to find a free DIY mod that has this much of a impact. Definitely adjust the clutch pedal height while down there as well.

I'm gonna reinstall the spring, but what kinda grease should I use? Can I use Lucas red and tacky #2 high temp grease? (that's something thst was suggested to use to lubricate thr clutch fork as well).

They're dead for me as well, the text is still helpful though.

I think there is enough info for my install (once I bring her out of storage).
