Track Brake Pad Discussion Thread

I ran Project Mu Club Racer RC09 pads this past Sunday at Buttonwillow Raceway Park after consulting with @CSG Mike. Despite the temperature being below 45° F, the pads did not squeal as I made my way around track configuration #13CW (disclaimer: I may have been having too much fun to notice). Braking performance was phenomenal and the Motul RBF600 boiled before any fading. I only got in two sessions before that happened, but I was very pleased with the handling. I swapped the pads out for my dedicated street pads before driving home and didn't notice heavy dusting or wear.

Feedback:
Excellent bite cold or hot. Minimal noise when cold. Zero fade after 25 minute sessions at Laguna Seca. Pads were smoking at the end of a session, but never overheated/faded. Very happy with wear so far. In my last car LS would eat away1/2 of my raybestos ST43 pads in a single track day. There was minimal wear, maybe 3mm on the club racer pads after a full day.

MXRS actually. So one step up for those track guys. They love it.

MX72 is what we run on every single GTR that steps in our shop on top of that, the 370z guys love this compound too.

MX72 gives the perfect street tame feel and also has the bite available when u bring the weekend warrior out to the track!

We haven't had any customers run an MX72 but as our favorite pad and with all endless products, I know they will not be disappointed.

MX72 < MXRS < ME20

Our GTR clients generally use ME20 or equivalent, or more aggressive; the MX72 only works for the less experienced drivers.

I wouldn't recommend a MX72 to any FRS drivers that have a decent amount of experience. It's roughly between to a Project Mu B-force and HC+800.

The MXRS is roughly equivalent to a HC+800.

As a rule of thumb, if you're getting 4 days out of a pad, you're pad is roughly matched to your setup/driving/experience on the FRS/BRZ. If you're getting more, you should stay where you are, or possibly move down a compound, depending on wear. If you're getting less, you need to move up compounds, and/or get a BBK, and/or get ducting.

Endless does have excellent QC, and the stuff is tried and proven. Don't get too used to the prices on the Club Racer; it's a heavily discounted pad compared to the normal PMU lineup.

Endless pad is too expensive, I really like my Club Racer pad, easy to control, the noise is not loud, good stopping power when its cold.

Since 90% of our customers are street driven daily cars with only weekend track duties, we usually recommend the MX72, Although the MXRS and ME20 are much more agressive track pads, they have a cold squeal and are also much harsher on the rotors than the MX72.

Feedback:
Big improvement from stock brakes that were trashed after a single track day. Nice linear bite and no fade. Decent compromise between street use and noise and track performance.

Scores:
Dusting: 5, street use ok track days a fair amount of dust
Cold bite: 4, on cold mornings they don't bite as well
Hot bite: 10, very good bite, tires are limiting factor in my setup
Modulation: 8, good linear modulation
Noise: 4, squeaks (squeals?) sometimes but when thoroughly cleaned they are ok
Pad Lifespan: 5, about 12 track days for front pads
Does the brake dust with this combination damage the wheels/paint if not cleaned immediately? Y

just ordered a set of DTC-60 front and HP+ rear for the car, will be running street tire (either RS-3 or Rival)

One guy did a review on dtc70/60 but on hoosier and didn't talk much about the braking bias, anybody have an idea?

i know the 60's rear will have a lot more bite then HP+, but since i am running street tires, this should be plenty.

I do have a set of R6 in my locker that i might throw on the car, will see as the year pass!

I would recommend you run the same compound front/rear. You will be HEAVILY overworking the fronts with your setup; the rear doesn't have enough bite to ever really be doing any work.
