I would look for any excuse to take the car out. Trips to the grocery store for milk, even though the one I have expires in 10 days................

I kind of wish I got this color over the white.

Wow that photo from your office car park really illustrates how low and sculpted the FRS is compared to "normal" cars. Love it!

Not to hijack Dadhawks thread, but the car is amazing in person. I saw it at the NY auto show, but it really didn't hit me until I saw it parked next to a Tacoma at the dealer. Its tiny, yet has presence.

Like the finest sports cars, it's a beautiful marriage of form and function.

You really do have to see the car in person. Honestly I don't think any of the photos do it justice. Even in the "shark nose" photo above, the car looked lower and the nose "longer" to me when I took the picture. 2D photos cannot show the 3D effect of the car.

First tank fuel economy

(This is posted in the fuel economy thread as well, but I'm going to post it here for consistency. I'll be adding this ongoing to the OP at the top of this thread for now)

Filled up the first time this morning. Note that I do NOT know if this first tank was regular or premium. I was there when the dealer filled it up, but frankly didn't think to check. Since there is only one marking on the inside of the fuel cap cover that says Premium Fuel Only, I'm guessing it was Regular.

MPG over 308 miles was 29.38, mixed city/hwy, but probably a 65/35 split. Also included probably 10 to 15 minutes of total time at pure idle (showing people the car, listening to the engine, etc).

My city driving is a lot of stop and go, many stoplights.

My last DD had a 289K lifetime rating of 17.5MPG and used regular fuel. Based on that, on this one tank of gas, I've saved $20.77 over my last DD even with the price difference in fuel!

I'm a little disappointed the car does not have an Avg Speed display. My 2001 Astro (last DD) had that as well as Fuel Remaining. Avg. Speed over 289K miles was 35.7 on it.

I need to reverify this (seems lower than some others have reported) but on level road, my 6AT cruises at 2000RPM at 55MPH and 2250 RPM at 70MPH.

...That's awesome. Granted my driving is probably the opposite 35/65 as I do a 40 mile drive to ATL. So I'll be pretty interested to see what I get.

2006 Accord I've been driving gets 28 on average. My last car got that and it wasn't even rated to for it.

also, I can beat that homer. Krispy Kreme today

[Homer] Mmmmmmmmmm donuts [/Homer]

Great thread! I'm eagerly awaiting a Firestorm Red one too so your pics help pass the time.

I'm chalking it up to new tires and new driver at this point.
I noticed in one of your pics, the dealer had sprayed tire goop not just on the sidewall but also over the first inch or so of the front tire's tread. If the rear was treated the same way, this could have affected the handling. After some miles it'll wear off, so maybe that's why the issue hasn't shown up again.

You wouldn't think that just a small portion of the tread is that important, but the outside edge bears more of the forces when cornering, and some of that tire goop is very slippery! I always spray it on a cloth, then wipe the sidewall to avoid getting any on the tread.

No you're right, and I didn't think of that. I suspect that was a contributing factor. The car has been rock solid since this episode.

Tach Readings at highway speeds

Yesterday I had the opportunity to play with cruising speeds a bit. The following photos were taken at the 55, 60 and 70 MPH. The process used was:

Relatively flat road as seen through a GPS elevation (it changed only a few feet over the distance).

Car was at this speed with a stable RPM and MPG reading for at least 30 seconds before the picture was taken.

Cruise control used to hold speed.

The readings were easily reproducible on my 6AT.

Wow 6th gear on the AT is geared really low. No wonder it gets significantly better mpg than the MT!
