Hey mate, I'm in. But just for the circuit racing events.
Coz that's what I do 'an all...

I don't do the drag racing or gymkhana stuff.
So I'll see you at Vereeniging and Red Star.

Dan gaan julle manne KAK!!
Bring it on!!!

Event 3 2016 - Breakfast Run

Waking up at 3:30am on a Sunday (To get to this event)
Driving almost 400km (Incl travel To go and come from this event)
Would I do it again?

Hell Yeah!!!

Michelin Cup ZA lived up to its promise,
Not your average breakfast run,
Each stage had a unique challenge,
The run was approx over 142km, but you had checkpoints, and the routes you chose was up to you (or your team).

Hightlights of my day:
1) Daspoort Tunnel (Pity this doesn’t feature in my highlight video)
2) 3rd Stage – Team Challenge (Participants was split into teams, given a destination, and quickest team to arrive at the location won, speed fines were your own responsibility and drivers were told to drive responsibly)
3) Spending the day with like minded petrolheads that have a passion for their cars and motorsport

Hope this video works:
(Been having issues with GoPro studio making/exporting and uploading these videos, for some reason, people struggle to watch it on their mobile devices, but through this forum, it works)

On my way home from the Zwartkops Michelin Cup event, I had the pleasure of having my car photographed, albeit from behind. I've never come across this photographer's name before - Emakhazeni. Anybody know him? His photos are quite expensive too - R500 for only 1 pic, and it's not a very good pic either. I think that's a bit of a rip-off

Anyway, I'm not whining. It was a fun outing, and I could have got a traffic fine which would have really ruined my day. I was so lucky!! The cops were parked at the entrance to Zwartkops and they were fining guys with semis. I spotted them, stayed in the right lane, and hung a quick left into the track once past them - phew!! And of course, there was also the risk of a speeding ticket on the way home, but I was chilled and never went over 110, so I was OK. How lucky can you get!!

So who's all signed up for VKC? If anyone's been there before - please chime in on how you feel about 3-4 cars sharing the circuit per run @_@

Still better than the 30 on track at Zwartkops

I've entered, and I'm really looking forward to this event.

If you think Red Star's hard work with 13 corners in 4.2 kms, then consider that VKC's got 14 corners in 1.1 kms!!
That really suits me and my car well, so I'm hoping for a good result, and I'd love to get another class win.

I'm going to drive up on Saturday, put in some track time at Midvaal in the afternoon, and stay with my son who lives in Meyerton.

As I understand it, there's minimal warm-up and practice time.
We each get 4 runs, 2 clockwise and 2 anti-clockwise, each run consisting of a warm-up lap, two timed laps, and a cool-down lap.

Which means that you must start warming up your car at least 5 mins before the start, and you'll be caning it on cold tyres.

Search YouTube for Carl van As's videos from last year, they're titled Michelin Cup round 2 session 1, and session 2 and here's what the track looks like

Round 3 & 4 - 2016 ODI raceway

"This is what went down at the combined 3rd & 4th rounds.
It was a pretty good day of racing, but sadly it was marred by a few incidents and a serious lack of control over the events.
The line took ages, many people only managed a single kilometer run,
while bikes racked up runs as if they were on a circuit.

A certain 9 year old racer was cool to watch - the 1st 15 times.
He's 9 and got in more drag runs than most of the club members in their lifetime."

Michelin Cup ZA facebook status.

My personal experience....
ODI was a brutal event, walking up at 5am to make this event,
spending 10hours in the sun,
spending hours waiting in line to do a half a minute on the run way was painful and brutal,

What made it worse, was there was 3 portable toilets to service 200+ people?!
Hygiene levels were dangerous.

Results:

1) Riel
(N/A 86 - RMS UEL Headers / BRZ exhaust / Delicious Tune e70 / e80 flex fuel kit tune)
18 inch Falken tyres with XXR rims

1km - 194kph

1/4mile time - 15.1 sec

The man has a strong car(1km) and skills off the line (1/4mile)

2) FT_86_SM_GP (Myself)
(N/A 86 - Borla UEL headers / BRZ exhaust / PhoenixPerformance 95ron tune)
17 inch OEM wheels and tyres (Michelin Primacy)

1km - 189kph

1/4mile time - 16 sec

3) @LostSalad
(N/A 86 - BRZ exhaust / Stock tune)
17inch OEM wheels with Potenza RE002's

1km - 183kph

1/4mile time - 16.16 sec

Overall experience, Drag racing isn't as easy as it looks, reaction times, 'featuring' your accelerator and getting off the line is no walk in the park,

I struggled to not spin allot, was a 'new' motoring experience,

Will I ever go to a drag racing event again....No thanks, not my cup of tea.

Will I ever go to ODI raceway again (Facility wise) ... HELL NO.

Here's some pics from Event 3&4 ODI

Shout out to @LostSalad who did excellent on the strip, 16.16sec! if you did some weight reduction tweeks and did more runs, you would have def in the 15secs (In my opinion)

Not sure why I naturally resized this pic when I added it in my earlier post,

Damn these 86's look good

Here's some video footage of the 3 of 4 runs I had on the day,
My 10 hour day, could be summarized in under 2mins lol

Shiren your car sounds so lovely

good times there

From the vids the wheelspin does seem slightly excessive. you should have tried launching at a slightly lower rev.

I'm glad I didnt attend. No use waiting for such a long time in queue and only getting a few runs in. You dont get to learn the track and improve your times.

Super photo of the two black 86's and nice videos, thanks.

I assume that you guys know that your Michelin Cup race number is on the number plate cover-ups, and if one uses the Michelin Cup website, it's easy to match race numbers to names...
Just sayin'
