What kind of update do you need? It's a standard double din unit that will work just fine in any year model of the twins, for a 17 you'll use the Scosche SU2032B dash kit.

Do I still use that kit with the single piece dash from Canada? And should I just use any wiring harnesses that crutchfield says I need?

No, the Scosche kit is intended for the trapezoidal opening of the US dash, there is another kit that I’ve seen mentioned in other threads that just fills in the gap on the sides of the head unit if you’re using the Canadian dash with a rectangular opening. The particular harness that you’ll need just depends on what type of installation that you are doing, what Crutchfield recommends should be fine... but more complicated installs such as using a Maestro RR (which I’m not sure if it is compatible with the Sony head unit) require either hardwiring or using their T01 harness plus adding some pins (look up my recent thread regarding installing the Meastro RR with a Pioneer head unit).
