Sounds cooler with a moderately loud one.

I work for a rental car company so I get to drive lots of cars. And to be honest, there are times I wish this car was more quiet compared to a lot of newer stuff that's out there. But that's such a small sacrifice to make compared to the driving experience the 86 offers. It's a bit more quiet than the prelude and rsx I owned and that's good enough for me.

I don't really see a comparison between old and new cars to be that valid, different standards from a different time. An RSX now would be real quiet.

I disagree. I'm sure lots of 86 owners came from some older sports/sporty cars and were looking for a similar experience those cars offered but with some modern amenities. So comparing nvh levels between the 2 is completely valid. An ap1 s2k is available at a similar price as a used 86. Those 2 are compared all the time. Nvh is most certainly a discussed point despite the ap1 being almost 20 years old.

I also don't think I can agree people compare noise levels when looking at these two cars. Practicality at the very most, which is what I see the most of, and what I personally compared. Noise? A doubtful variable.

The Toybaru is a 85% finished car, so the owner can finish it to his liking. This way, it also keeps down the selling price.

As is (un-finished), it is very noisy. The beauty of it is the owner can easily make it much quieter or much nosier, if he so wishes.

My hearing is ok for my age group, so I put in modifications (removal of sound tube, adding 25kg of sound insulation) to quiet down the car; but others (who went to too many rock concerts in their youth) might desire more noise.

That is no right or wrong or too much or too little noise, everyone has a different preference.

I know, it will never be a quiet car, per se. But I am happy with it being 6 dB quieter than day 1.

BRZ isn't anywhere close to a noisy car. People are so demanding these days lol.

Would love to take somebody that thinks these are noisy for a ride in a base model 1965 Dodge Dart or something similar! Steel dash, steel interior door panels, 1/8 thick unpadded vinyl instead of carpet, no fender liners or firewall insulation, oh the list just goes on and on. The rattles have squeaks and the squeaks have creaks. It is a virtual orchestra of noise. Don't even get me started on what the inside of a pre 1980 pickup truck sounded like!
Sound proofing was the realm of only the top of the line luxury models for most of automotive history.

I took the bus/lightrail nearly everywhere for a bunch of years before I got my car. It was a miracle. Our car is incredibly quiet. Buses and trains... my ears felt like death.

Agree with everyone. Nowhere near loud. Not sure what people expect from a 2700 pound car lol things like that should not be considered by "journalists" when writing about the BRZ though. It's like whining about the quality of the leather, plastics, the infotainment system etc. It's not a 7 series lol
