I don't know if I'm a lot older than you, but my gaming days go back to Zork. So I've experienced pretty much every major breakthrough. And they're coming less and less frequently. And the ones that do break out get sequeled to death.

Like I said, though. More CPU at least gives us potential. But I'm a natural pessimist.

Little before my time. I grew up on Genesis and spent most of my time with PS1 and PS2. I remember going to Toys R Us and having the guy behind the counter grab my little white piece of paper and come back with my black and red cartridge box to go home and play.

re: the controllers
I have always thought the Xbox 360 controller was superior to the PS3 controller. I just saw this image posted a bit ago though on reddit. It looks like a huge (no pun intended) overhaul and much less cramped.


Interestingly enough, I've been reading a lot of opinions that the PS4 controller is actually now preferable. YMMV, of course, but until we all get our hands on the new controllers it's interesting to read/hear the feedback from the people that were at the show and have put some time into handling them.

edit: Oh, and here's something you won't be able to unsee. The grips on the PS4 look like a pair of gentleman sausages.

That X1 controller just keeps looking amazing. Really waiting for some demo kiosks to show up in stores. DS4 looks.... Interesting. Definitely a lot better than DS3, but I can't get over how ridiculously good the X1 controller looks like it's going to be.

But yes, I know what you mean. I wish the analog and d-pad were swapped. Alternatively, the d-pad isn't in a great spot for fighting games on the 360. But I bought a stick anyway, since the d-pad was so terrible, so I guess that's moot.

Needless to say I'm not buying the new Xbox after I found how GD cheap they were with the console. The CD tray was a stupid cost cutting move. There were so many cut up games places like Amazon have taken over replacing them! Even though it was a design flaw.

I usually buy used/second release after the price drops though so I'll be looking at a PS3 long before I consider a PS4.

edit: Didn't want to double post, so here's another bit of info from today. The Kinect will be able to read QR codes, so if they're included for DLC or whatever, that means no more inputting 5-digit redeemable keys.

I wish they were 5-digits haha I'm sure it was a typo but for those of you who don't know what a QR code is, It's a 25-digit code Xbox users input to redeem something as a map pack or 3month live sub, etc. I'm sure PS users have them too, not sure. But thank God I'll never have to do that again haha. Now I just lift it up to the Kinect and presto! Done.

The 25 digit code was just that, a code. The following is a QR code, which contains digitized information coded into a picture like so.


You'll hold that in front of the Kinect and it'll scan it.

Note: I got this QR from Google. If you scan it on your own I won't be held responsible for where it goes, cause I have no idea.

That's actually fantastically cool. Features like this exist because the Kinect comes with every box! Since devs are not wasting their time with a product that "no one wants to buy" separately, they can afford to fully explore possibilities and push cool new features out knowing that they will hit 100% of the users.

I'm excited to see what other devs and game designers do with it.
