Working around the CEL issue via tinkering with the ECU or by drilling hoses and relocating O2 sensors sounds like a bit of a PITA.
Wonder if they're doing a catted version or, if not, why?

I've seen people daisy chain with male/female connectors for an extension or just have a 4 foot extended cable ziptied up that extends back to the secondary cat making it their primary and bypassing the first cat. I'm almost positive that requires a tune to remove the first cat sensor. |

Yes, that is one way of doing it, or you could have them put a bung on the header if it doesn't have one far enough back so it doesn't pick up a huge amount of flow from the collector to avoid a CEL for running rich. I've seen others reprogram the main sensor post cat as well. There's several ways to do it. Exhaust shops are able to fabricate a bung anywhere on the pipe you want I'd assume. Some vendors have been posting about the Borla header not throwing a CEL and same with the JDL one so far. I'd find a header solution that has a built in bung and not mess with the far extension of the sensor to the front pipe or post second cat. Depending on how good our stock O2 sensors are, they may burn out after 30k miles and need better aftermarket ones. Time will tell. I plan on going with a catless header but keeping a catted front pipe so I don't pollute the hell out of everything. The flow from the header to the downpipe/overpipe is where the biggest gains occur and that's the spot you don't want to restrict as much. Just my 2 cents. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. The back half of the exhaust isn't too important especially if you're NA. FI is another story. |

Borla should have done an O2 bung like my old PDE down pipe.

If somebody finds a way to add a bung to the Borla header which fits and avoids the CEL issue that'd be sweet.
Bit curious why Borla wouldn't do that themselves though. I'd hate to have a mechanic hack into my new header only to encounter clearance issues or worse, quality issues with the bung cracking at the weld or not fitting / not working. Suppose we'll have to wait on some guinea pig types to show how it's done.

Install it yourself and not where the stock O2 is Mark it off in a close location (where it will fit on the car) on the test pipe Buy O2 bung Take off test pipe and have a shop weld in the bung Not super easy but not rocket science either. Did this with my STI and my Corvette.

I thought I'd chime in here since I have a UEL header from Borla. All I did to ensure I didn't though a CEL from the cat delete is to move the O2 sensor about in inch away from the exhaust flow. I placed the O2 sensor into a Spark Plug Non-Fouler that I bought at AutoZone for 4bucks. (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...er=720805_0_0_)
I found this video on youtube that pretty much explains the process. This is not an FRZ/BRZ in the video but it's the same thing I did to move the 02 sensor: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqDmmLQ4pGk"]Clear check engine light for less than 5 dollars - YouTube[/ame] I've had the headers on my car for about a month now, no CEL. |

I installed my Borla UEL headers from JSCSpeed this past weekend. Mine has two bungs and was able to mount both O2 sensors without throwing any CELs. The sound is amazing and I'll have a video up by next weekend

I want a working CEL solution without a tune and then I'd consider buying.
