please excuse my ignorance, but how do you do this? does it require a lot of custom extended wiring harnesses? or a couple extra engine covers? I see most, if not all, have the battery relocated.
cheers

It really depends. For our cars, I have no idea, but for my STi, the only wires I had to extend were my alternator wire/power steering wires. Everything else I was able to just reroute it somewhere out of view. Others extended everything to do a complete move of wires but it was unnecessary.

Example, I was able to take the main bulk harness connectors on the driver side of my sti, and pull them through the fender (where the wire harness originally sits), route them up and into the wiper cowl area, and out an existing hole to hide them in the back of the bay, and clean up the right side. If you don't this wire would extend across. Here is a photo before I relocated this harness so you can see what i'm talking about. I also didn't extend the alternator wire in this photo, so you can see that stretched across too.
