Colour options - pros & cons
Hey everyone,
I am in the market for a GT86, have test driven a few now and seen every colour in person. But I still can't decide what colour I want. I know it's a personal choice but I wondered if you had noticed any pros & cons in the colour choices you have got? I'm situated in NZ which is close to the sea salt air and can get very humid and hot so anyone in similar climates it would be great to hear your feedback on how the paint is holding up. My choices I am really looking at are Black, White and Red. Silver and Blue maybe, Orange and Asphalt are out. I'd be looking to apply some window tint and would be looking for some black rims. What I know so far: Black - can be hard to keep clean, but looks really nice and executive. White - again hard to keep clean, but looks really tidy. Red - looks really nice, maybe a bit to sporty. Red cars I've owned in the past have either faded or flaked. Blue - currently own a blue car - kind of want something different, however looks good, can be a bit relaxed on cleaning. Silver - a bit bland but still looks tidy, can be forgiving for being a bit dirty. Cheers, Sanzie |

White isnt hard to clean at all, it looks the cleanest of the bunch when dirty. Its the hardest to paint match though, a real bitch.

Looks like you hit the nail on the head already.
I've noticed with white that although clean, can still look dirty. If you look close, you can see black flakes of dirt. All that means though is that you must claybar your car more often. Black is a pain to keep clean, but amazing when kept clean. However, swirls will start to show unless you're using a buffer every time you clean. That's where white will be better as it shows the swirls a bit less. Red is nice, but i always think that with red paints they mix the clear with the paint and eventually it will flake and get faded. This may not be the case, but I always think that. |

White is pretty boss as far as colors go. I love my whiteout. Yes, it shows dirt the easiest but when you clean it, water spots are not really visible and harder to see small scratches that may occur.

Get the Whiteout, as that color is going away. It's a very good color on a stock or lightly modded (wheels, tint) FR-S.

I love seeing a well-done whiteout. It's classy without looking cheap. @636 has a very nice one. On the other hand, it can be very tacky if done poorly.

White, Red, and Silver are colors that are easy to take care of.
Black is really REALLY hard...but it depends on your skill.

White seems to be a good color for future resale. Very popular color at the present time.

Think ahead about wheels and other mods.
White 86's can pull off black wheels and black roofs much better than my WR Blue can, IMHO. |

White looks awesome, but is a PITA to match in terms of repainting parts. Black looks amazing when clean. But once you go black you........are forever washing, polishing and waxing. I love my Argento !

Hey,
Fellow NZer here. When you do get one join our club at www.86brz.co.nz I was a huge fan of the Orange when it first came out (being a Toyota exclusive colour helped a lot too), but I've since converted to the Dark Blue (WRB being Subaru exclusive). Looks classy and if you look in the gallery forum, you can see nice examples in each colour you're interested in. I'm intrigued by the new White and Silver colours coming approximately September of this year (should be an August 2014 build date) - as well as the new additions, but nothing's official as yet from the dealers AFAIK. I'd go for blue but thats my bias. Theres a HEAP of white ones around in the club, with black being the second most popular colour around. Third is maybe the gray... And the rest are all pretty rare. Red, Blue (I can count 3 off the top of my head) and Silver. Agree with the problems w/ the red flaking, as well as previous advice that it will be a police magnet LOL. If time is on your side, maybe wait and see what the new colours are like before buying? Then you can either get a new colour, or haggle down the price on a preferred "older" colour. |
