I saved ~$350 picking up the car myself and driving it back instead of shipping it. My taxes were ~$2000. Granted I got a Premium instead of a Limited, but the price difference is maybe $1000 with the options I had.

A Limited for under $29k OTD with Clint is probably do-able. $28k for sure with a Premium, especially if you special-order one with zero options.

Call Clint. You'll pay under $29K before shipping but taxes included.

Most people outside of So. Cal. are getting Limited BRZ's for a little over 27k now. That would be my target if I were you. Tax, Title, and license varies by state and that's on you.

10% wouldn't bother me if i had no state income tax either; on top of a 9% sales tax, my effective state income tax rate is 7.5%.

I offset it by structuring my income from non-salary/wages and sheltering so my actual tax rate is about 3.5%. Also, when I buy fancy sports cars I ride with a dealer tag or I register through a mail drop in Montana thereby circumventing even more taxes.

Not.

That's not true...

Again, the price will vary based on where you live and where the car will be titled/registered.

This is what you have to pay for a $27000 car in CA, in my zip code:
Quote:
Current Registration: 43.00
Current California Highway Patrol: 23.00
Current Vehicle License Fee: 176.00
Current County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies Fee: 1.00
Current Fingerprint ID Fee: 1.00
Current Smog High Polluter Repair Fee: 6.00
Original Smog Abatement: 6.00
Alt Fuel/Tech Smog Fee: 8.00
Current Auto Theft and/or DUI Crime Deterrence Program: 1.00
Current Air Quality Management District: 6.00
Current South Coast Air Basin: 1.00
Alt Fuel/Tech Reg Fee: 3.00
Use/Sales Tax: 2,430.00
Reflectorized License Plate Fee: 1.00

Total Registration Fees: $276.00

Total Use/Sales Tax: $2,430.00

Grand Total Registration Fees: $2,706.00
So that makes the car $29706 "Out the door" for a $27000 car, assuming the $27k includes all fees you pay to the dealer.

Okay. Even with all that, as Zoti said, you'll still be done for under $29K OTD for a Limited if you talk to Clint (at least you should be on the last of his '13s).

You'll probably end up a bit over it if you ship it. But pick it up, and you'll be OTD, even with your taxes, for under $29K with Clint @HeubergerMotors

There might be somewhere out there with taxes so high that it pushes it over $29K OTD. But in at least 99.9999% of the country, Clint can get you a Limited, OTD with every last thing, for under $29K. At least if you're willing to pick it up -- which, frankly, everyone should do anyways if it's at all a possibility.

I got $29086 OTD based on what I paid Clint last week for my Manual BRZ limited with popular package C2 and wheel locks.

That's based on your breakdown of the CA fees and 9% TAX.

I agree.

Not in CA but, I paid $300 under Invoice, August 15th, 2013.

Research: Do your homework and then get quotes from multiple dealers. Then get them beat or price match one another. Also take into consideration any additional offers by dealer, free tires at so many miles, extended warranty and or other dealer incentives.

I used cargurus.com, Costco Auto Purchasing Program $500 over Invoice, edmunds.com, carsforsale.com among others. Education is key to getting a "Fair" price on a vehicle.

Deal: Oh, and deal with Internet/Fleet Sales Managers not Lot Sales folks. They know you have done your homework and will give you straight answers.

I basically put together the deal and then make an offer on the car either over the phone or e-mail. Almost always it takes them getting back to me for approval. I also received all of my quotes back via e-mail including the specific Vehicles VIN. Then I go inspect and test drive the vehicle and sign the papers. At this point everything else has already been negotiated. Be prepared on your level of interest in POS addtions like extended warranties, maintenance plans, paint and undercoating, clear bras, etc. Know what you want, what they cost, so you are able to recognize a "fair" deal.

Insurance: Don't forget to check with Insurance. I had to leave my current insurance provider because they wanted $70 more per month on top of what I was paying for my Mini Cooper S. Luckily I found another company and duplicated coverage for less or it would have halted my purchase.

Final Note: I have used this method to purchase two other cars for $3k under invoice. Granted they were not quite as hot on the market as 86's.

Best of Luck!

I live in PA and am trying to get 26/27,000 out the door on a limited. They don't seem to be in any kind of shortage here, so I'm sure with some good negotiation it's possible. Any input from PA BRZ owners?

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

Taxes and various fees for PA will be ~$2,000 on the sale.

So to get "Out the Door" for $26K, you would need someone to sell you the Limited for $24K -- about $5,000 off sticker. On a car without factory rebates.

Dealer invoice is approximately $27,000 -- so you'd be looking to get the car for some $3,000 less than what they (theoretically) paid for it. The guys up in the Northeast are largely doing well to get invoice pricing, to do $3,000 better than that, would be unheard of; and I would say virtually impossible. All the negotiation in the world isn't going to get someone to take a bath on the car; not for a good long time and that car has been sitting a LONG time, would they even consider losing a dime, let alone thousands. They'd transfer the car to someone else that could sell it before they'd take that kind of hit.

Clint can sell his cars for $1,300 under "invoice" only because they're the largest Subaru dealer in the country and, as a result of that, can get pricing and allocation that no one else can get. Plus they want to keep that record. No dealer in PA is buying cars from Subaru for the same pricing, so no way they can even match his pricing, let alone throw a couple more grand on top of it.

Gotcha, my overall goal is to not pay more than MSRP OTD. I may be a little too optimistic here, but I hate being robbed by dealerships.
