"Get the big picture" is what my Driver's Ed teacher used to drill into our heads, and it stuck. IOW know what is around you at all times. Don't fixate on the windshield, constantly check your mirrors. If you have proximity sensors, even better, but don't rely on them.
Large cause of accidents - tailgating. Don't do it, obviously, and don't let others do it to you. If someone is tailgating you (happens to me almost daily) do not speed up to appease them. Slowly decelerate (don't touch your brakes) and force them to go around you. You've just avoided a dangerous situation and made the other driver look like an asshole. VICTORY! |
