c7 vs. supercharged 86

Just wondering what your guys' thoughts are on this. After pricing a supercharged 86 track build, looks like I'll end up paying nearly ~$40k all in. Used C7 z51 are ~$38-40k atm.

Initial thoughts:

1) Weight - C7 is *heavy*. It weighs ~400 pounds more than a c5 z06, which leads to more money spent on consumables & a more insulated driver feel.
2) Luxury/Comfort - of course, C7 is the winner here (*especially* if you find one with MRC)
3) Parts cost - C7 likely costs more here, an engine is ~$10k I think.
4) Sound - C7 wins here
5) Steering feel - 86 would likely win here, but I haven't test drove a C7 yet
6) Reliability - could either be a wash or C7 would win if the supercharger ends up breaking things (likely)

What say you?

C7 I don't even really know if there is an argument to make otherwise.

The c7 is built to go fast out the gate stock. Just go with that. If I could get one of those for 38k in aus, id have bought it already.

Also, 3298 lbs with an incredible power plant and sorted suspension stock.

It just depends if you're a Vette guy which I am not. I'd get a Lotus for 40k

I have a good amount of seat time in the C5 and the C6.

Ive driven a C7 GS once. Fantastic car.

Ill tell you one thing. The 86 is a lot easier to drive at its limit and have fun.

Getting even close halfway to the limit of the vette on the track and you better pucker that a$$ up. It will throw you around if you don't know what you are doing or get too cocky.

So that being said it will depend on your driving experience. I've had high HP cars and tracked them.

I still find the S2k and the 86 to be the most enjoyable cars at the track.

You dont need 400+ hp to have fun at the track. Especially in a car that handles well.

If you want a car thats like the 86 in terms of handling but with more power and better suited for tracking out the box look at the first gen Cayman S

all great points but he is comparing the stock c7 to a 40 supercharged frs so youre gonna have to pucker either way.

I'm planning to track a lot. To keep this OT let's stick to comparison to a C7 (z51). I love lotuses but they aren't really DD-able.

Yes, the corvette will be faster (although, it might go either way if you go high e85). That's a good point I forgot to mention.

I'm enjoying my FRS, but making it fast is definitely expensive unless you take a risk with used parts or an incomplete build.

Well, guess the question really is what's better a $40k worth in a 86 or a C7.

With the C7 your starting at that price point pretty much.
As with the 86 you got (assuming it's a new car) $28-ish so you got $12k to play around with

Then again power wise the C7 is at base line with a modded 86.

If I liked both cars, the C7 would win easily. But I don't like 'em. So I'd go Lotus, especially if you're planning a lot of track

What?!?! Most nodded 86 unless they're running impressive turbo setups which usually consist of built engines... dont put down what a stock c7 will.

Not to mention the difference in torque.
