I am dealing my way, politely raising awareness. Nothing personal on you and no need to bristle - innocent jokes about correcting 'retard' to 'developmentally challenged' (and inferring that it's silly) hits home with me (and I'm sure others). Apologies if that offends you, last I will post about it, let the thread carry on...

Even the local Bimmer dudes pops may not be so annoying if it weren't for the horrible sounding Ebay exhausts they all seem to be running. There are four of them and I truly do not understand how they think those cars sound good in any manner. If you can afford a two year old BMW can't you afford to put a decent exhaust on the thing? Sounds like a bunch of fire crackers put in a tin can. They also can't sit and idle like a normal car but have to rev the things out every 5 seconds. Since they sit in the middle of the road and talk from car to car this gets old really fast. The funny part is they will creep on and off the street to not make much noise but then sit there for an hour revving it.

Be afraid of lighting all the greasy man buns on fire and losing the whole neighborhood.

All I can think of when I hear a car popping around, is that back-in-the-day, when a car did that, it was either out of time and/or had too many carburetors. -

i'm not an expert on bimmer bros, only that they are allergic to turn signals, but perhaps that is their mating call to attract bimmerettes

Our cars aren't really made for that. Yeah you could get a tune for it but like @Tcoat said, you're just asking for problems. Driven a few cars that crackle and pop and it's cool and all but it would get old super quick. I think for our cars a little burble and the occasional pop on a downshift is enough. You can get that with a muffler delete I believe and some other exhausts.

Not sure what a Ford fusion ST is, but here's how the crackle and pops work:

When you tip out of the throttle, modern engines go into an "overrun" condition. In this mode, fuel is cut as it's not needed. You are instead using the cars motion to keep the engine running. The pops and crackles happen by the tuner retarding the timing during overrun deccel and adding a tiny bit of fuel.

This is not harmful to your car. Many OEM's do it on stock cars: Mostly notably Hyundai Veloster N, Ford Focus RS, F-Type etc.

That's probably because the Focus RS sounds like garbage lol. I have never heard a more "fake" sounding exhaust note pops ever.

If you guys want to hear properly done pops, look at any Veloster N/i30 N video.
