I go around to the garage or ask to meet the tech. I give him a $20 and tell him to take of my car, I've had too many shitty services elsewhere

FWIW, giving the tech a tip doesn't change their skills or knowledge. I understand why one would do that, but I don't think that's really addressing the main issue at hand.

Mark off Diablo Subaru in Walnut Creek in your list. Initial talk was good but when it comes to mechanical issue, not good. I did not get to talk to the tech himself just with the service adviser.

And since we're on the revival...
Quote:
I'm down in Monterey, and we only have Cypress Coast Mazda/Subaru. I've taken all my previous Mazdas (two MX-5s and one Mazda 3 HB) and my previous car (lifted Subaru Crosstrek). I always had a reasonably good experience there until I lifted my Crosstrek, and then things went south. I had an extended warranty on it, and the CVT boots needed replaced (very common issue with the Crosstrek). I mentioned the clunking sound to the guys there after getting one of the services done, and they said they would look into it the next time which was fine because I didn't bring it up until I picked up the car (my fault). A few months went by, I install the lift, I take it back over to get the clunking sound looked at (ie: the CVT boots replaced). At the same time it picked up a really funny, grinding-like sound that many Crosstrek owners attributed to rocks getting stuck in the dust shield. When I dropped the car off I asked that they look into that as well. In short, they claimed not only did the lift kit ruin the CVT boots but the transmission was also grenaded. They said the transmission was shot because of a sound I reported hearing (it was god awful). Anyways, after giving me a $10k repair estimate and telling me that they won't do any work on the car because of the lift kit I took the car to Subaru of Santa Cruz. Mind you, when I left the dealer the funny sound I heard was gone. Santa Cruz had my boots replaced under warranty (it took some back and forth with Subaru NA, but in the end they conceded). Santa Cruz knew about the lift kit, and they said while it does ever-so-slightly adjust the angle to the front end of the car it's not going to do break the boots let alone the transmission. After all, we're talking about a 2" spacer kit...while 2 inches might make the wife happy it's not going to break the car. And that's my long story about dealership woes, but I would take a car to Subaru Santa Cruz without a second thought. |

I know this is a thread about dealer service but I'm definitely going to echo what others said - back when I had my WRX I would gladly take the extra time to drive out to LIC even though they were hella far from where I was living. Some things are just worth it. Dealing with hit or miss dealer service isn't one of them.
