I'm not gonna lie, it did take me a while to find a decent used one. I think it has a lot to do with how bad the paint is on these things but most of the ones I looked at looked horrible for what one would typically expect of a 10k to 30k mile car.

I'd consider my TDI pretty well cared for considering the mileage. Too bad that thing is probably going straight to the crusher instead of another owner.

I read way to much amateur hour modding on here to trust just any used one. There are heavily modded ones here that I would buy in a heartbeat since I have read their histories (like this http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...24#post2844724 ) but there are many more that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. There is one in one of the for sale sections right this second that reading the post history and looking at the pictures I would pity the guy that bought it (not linking it so I can't be accused of interfering with their grossly overpriced sale). The whole thing is you never really know what you are getting when buying used if you don't know the history.

If it runs it will go to auction. Or at least around here it would.

In 2001 I traded in a 1989 Chevy Astro for a 2000 Chevy Astro that was an off-lease with a few thousand miles on it, still under warranty, they were selling for almost 60% of the price of a new one. (right after 9/11 and they couldn't move anything).

The '89 had 250,000+ miles on it, the interior headliner was doing the "Sheik tent" bellowing thing, and the transmission had just started slipping in 2nd gear, and it needed tires. The full tank of gas it had probably doubled the value of the car.

The service manager did a good job of faking doing an evaluation of it out the window of the salesman's office. He came in and said, "Yea, I think we can give you $2,500 for it".

I told him, "OK, if it makes you feel better I'll believe you are giving me $2,000 over what it is worth for it". He looked at me with shock and then just cracked up laughing. He said, "OK, you got me, but we're still giving you the $2,500 to make the deal".

I'm pretty sure it went directly from the front of the dealership to the crusher, or maybe a demolition derby.

They plan to sell the revised model for 4 years correct?

Will be an interesting sight to see sales on the 3rd/4th year.

I'm one of them, too. I have enough projects. This is my DD and I need to know it's going to start every day. I need to know it's got a warranty.

I did look into some used models. There weren't a lot in my metro area. And TBH, with a car like this, I would always wonder who drove it before and how they treated it. It's like buying a used sport bike.

I'd buy your high mileage car in a minute and turn it into a track car, knowing it was serviced well and has almost entirely highway miles.

I noticed that they are trying to promote the BRZ performance package as fresh blood. They gathered many US journalists in Spain for this. I am not sure how sales will go, since this package is considerably more expensive.

$1,100 is really not considerably more expensive for what you get in the package. In fact it is dirt cheap.

Hey guys, I didn't see any charts for BRZ and 86 sales, so I thought I'd whip some up so I'd be able to more easily see the general trend in sales. They came out just fine, so I thought others might like to see them. Sorry Canada, US only for now--I'll get to it later when I have more time.

86/FR-S total US sales

BRZ total US sales

86 year over year US sales

BRZ year over year US sales

which software did u use for these?

as a side note, the really bad numbers are probably due to the new miata. there is a possibility of the numbers going back up for next year.
