New Zealand BRZ Pricing released

Sorry if it is a re-post, couldn't seem to find it.

Here is an email I got from Subaru NZ:
Secure one of only 12 BRZs.

This December, only 12 Subaru BRZs are due to arrive in New Zealand. Since you’re a Subaru enthusiast, we’re giving you the first chance to lock one in.

We’re looking to squeeze this unique, Boxer-engined beast in for under $60,000* and, if you’re one of the first twelve to pre-order and pay a $1,200* deposit, we’ll include a personalised Euro-plate and a 3-year service plan. You’ll also be invited to the exclusive launch event, where you’ll be taught all about the BRZ and get to put it through its paces on the track.

Website confirms it:
www.brz.co.nz

Seems like a few are sold already!

AND WTF $60K price tag??? Something tells me I will be importing from Japan.

For you guys in America, at current exchange rates that's about US$49,000

2 different countries with 2 different pricing structures and 2 different economies.

Ballsak (i still laugh at that every time) is right, would cost more to get it over there and obviously generating a markup with limited supply.

Corolla gx hatch in NZ is listed at 28k while we pay 20k for the accent. Pretty sure our ascent is better equipped but ill check that. Actually a range of corolla is 19990 drive away atm. Plus no 86 to challenge that im aware of.

60k NZ = 47k AU so i say its in line with 40k not 50k. Average 5-7k different in list price + the $ difference = our brother in arms pay a fair chunk more then us. For some reason the WRX has a cheaper list price the AUS but the $ difference balances it out.

If anything i see this as a good thing, partially.

I seen this last week just cant remember if the 60k info was there, pretty sure it was.

Just chill folks, its not the end of the world YET

I'm just hoping that this is a special offer from Subaru NZ to leech more money out of it and the price will lower after the initial launch (You do get track time, personalized number plate etc). Last time I checked it's around $40K (NZ) to import one new from Japan including all taxes.

Do you know if your able to import them there? I know your import laws are quite relaxed compared to ours...

So it's about 3.5k cheaper than an STi in NZ (which is about $3k less than our STi list price). A direct translation of that price over here would mean a touch over $60k... Given that they won't discount it out of the blocks, while you can get an STi for less than that... wow!

I've been wondering whether I'd get a BRZ over a WRX, seems the question is would you get one over an STi, to which I'm afraid the answer is a resounding no for me.

If this is where it's priced here there are three scenarios for the Toyota:
- The 86 is going to be _way_ more expensive than people are expecting
- It's going to have a taxi pack interior (to justify the expense of the Subaru)
- Subaru have utterly lost their minds and view the BRZ to 86 comparison as analogous to comparing the Golf R to an Audi TTR... If this is the case I suspect they will sit in the dealers until the price comes down to that of the 86, as happened with the first batch of Evo's Mitsubishi tried to sell for circa $85k, sat around until they were flogging them off for the price of an STi... People want _something_ of substance to go along with their exclusivity otherwise they'll just buy the vastly cheaper and not that inferior competitor. In this case they're even closer in comparison!

Since in other markets they are priced the same, I would say number one is the likely outcome and the 86 will start at above 50...

I know NZ is not Australia, but to me it's a far more realistic comparison to the US/UK etc like people have been doing...

Could be, but most manufacturers (unless they're bats hit insane or called HSV) don't do massive discounts like that as it annoys the shit out of people who bought before (ask VX/VY/VZ GTS buyers)

The only thing that might happen is this is the only 12 they bring in _ever_ which would almost justify getting something collectable, but not in NZ where it seems pretty easy to import yourself?

Yeah true, easy enough to keep the headline price while discounting heavily to actually sell, but it's an odd thing to do with a brand new model?

NZ gets a price and Australia doesnt?
Well thats it, fuck you Toyota/Subaru. Each day that goes by without a price is like a personal insult to me. Even a fucking back-water, low population, inconsequential country like NZ has a price and release date. WTF?
