For some people modding is an addiction and for some its a way to fine tune the existing set up to their way of driving.

We mod for various reasons but the end result is what is important.

In my book, to mod is to enhance what is already there into more tactile feeling when driving and perceiving it every time I sit behind the wheel.

In this platform, for the second time owners, coming from the first gen, I guess it will be easier to find what they are looking for if they had modded their first gen.

Some will avoid repeating previous mistakes and learn to better extract drivers enjoyment.

We must be very grateful that we have received a 2nd gen altogether, otherwise it would had been a difficult buy for the next car since getting so spoilt by our 86.

Adding a turbo as soon as JDL puts one out. I thought I loved the car, then I boosted it. What I knew before was not love, it was like.

Supporting mods included.

If I were to swap my 2015 FRS for the 2022 GR86, the only thing I would probably mod is probably the exhaust for a nicer sound. Toyota/Subaru nailed it with the power this time around after listening to all the reviews (especially with the torque dip). I think the stock power on the 2022 should be on par with a modded 2015 FRS (drop in air filter, exhaust, catted UEL header with an openflash tune).

First thing I'd do with the new car is follow the break in process religiously and to a tee.

Second thing I'd do next is take it to the track on an empty day (likely a Monday morning) and then carefully log all the data I can get from the OBD port into Race Chrono and my own brain to get a feel of how this car handles at the limit and keep an eye on various temperatures.

Third thing I'd do is religious maintenance and as soon as the tires are dead, swap them out for something like Hankook RS4s to get even more seat time and start going to more autocross events.

Fourth thing I'd do is determine when I'm alignment limited and start looking at options for stretching out my rulebook on OTA as to what gets me the most performance for minimal penalty. Then, MAX. IT. OUT.

Fifth - senddddd it.

Give me a flex fuel kit, UEL header and an invidia Q300 catback and I’m good. If the new engine components hold up as well as we hope then there is definitely a supercharger in my future at some point. 300hp would be perfect for this new car and give me the added power needed for the long straights I have in my area.

I really hope they didn't introduce a stupid bridge for the CAN bus like they did on 2018 Subaru WRX. On 2017 WRX you could get anything you wanted from the OBD port, but on 2018 WRX you have to cut and splice the wiring elsewhere to get to the real data.

I also hope there's still a hidden CAN/service port behind the head unit.

I'll probably do exactly what I did to 2015 BRZ, all of which I did in the first 1000 miles.

Widest wheels/tires I can fit under the stock fenders. In my case I went cheap on wheels with 18x9.5 RPF1s and 255/35 Star Specs.

Nice coilover suspension to get the wheel gap right. I cheaped out last time and went with Ground Control.

Catback Exhaust.

E85 tune.

I got a solid shift knob because I didn't like the feel of the stitching.
Plugged the sound hole in the firewall.

Still works fine though.

I would do "livability" mods. Does the door still close on your legs like and angry gator? Mod. Oil drain valve, maybe hood struts. Wide angle side mirrors. Performance air filter. Nails, oil spray, smoke, guns, ejection seat. Stuff like that.

If I can get a chance to hear to GR catback option, I might spring for that.

OK, I gotta ask, you make it sound like you use your horn constantly so just how many times do people almost plow into you?

I'm at over 190K miles and have not once used my horn "in anger". The only time I've used it is when I picked up the car and was doing a walkaround inspection.

I wish I could say not a lot but I'm in the city with this car nearly all the time. Probably in this car's history about 30+ times, I'd have to count all my dash cam footage. Never done in anger, more so "please don't hit me, I'm right beside you". Most of the time they're actually sorry. I'm actually more calm in this car than my other ones. The only times I wasn't pleased were the blatant red light runners(well past time needed to stop) fortunately it's only 2 of those thus far.

The drivers here are a bit derpy, getting worse with lane changes by relying entirely on blind spot sensors. Which seem to vary in whether they can "see" this car.

Took the second time for me to immediately move to horn replacement because they literally ignored it and we're still proceeding. Worse the guy was looking at some dinky Accent on the wrong side thinking it was him.

That's likely the difference. I rarely drive in "the city", which here would be downtown Atlanta.

I will admit I considered changing the horn out for something a little more attention getting when I first got the car.
