Gear oil for OS Giken LSD?

Is there any other gear oil I can use besides the way overpriced OS Giken fluid? It's starting to make me wish I had gone with Cusco or something else despite enjoying the performance of their LSD.

The recommendation is because they want it to operate how they designed it. If you put in thinner fluid it'll be really harsh and noisy.

Sometimes the games you play at the carnival are more expensive than admission you paid to get in.

You def. want to use their oil, or else you'll wear it out prematurely. I have a bigger rear diff cover, so now I have to use almost 2 qt. of Giken juice. OUCH.

That said, I've been wondering about this Redline 80W250 and if it's suitable. We enduro race our Miata's with Gikens too, and would be nice to use a cheaper oil. Maybe I'll send a tech request to Redline.

Thanks. Please let me know if you try it. Yes, if I went to a different oil was definitely still going to use the same weight.

OSGiken fluid is worth it just for the smell! Bouquet is like some kinda badass grapeffuit IPA... They also have qualified a Motul gear oil for their LSD, that's the only other option id consider.

yes, its Gear 300 75W140, but really only for transaxle gearboxes, such as Porsche. I know, because I run a Giken in my 987 track car, and after about 4 years, I finally need a rebuild. I feel like it's too thin for the LSD, but about as thick as you can run for the gearbox. It's definitely a compromise when you have a transaxle.

they ship with a list of "approved" alternative fluids, at least they do now. While they'll work, I've been told that you'll end up with a lot more chatter and noise. Try something from the list and see how it goes. (almost) worst case scenario you end back using the OSG fluid.
