Its not really a step by step thing, you pull the radio, cut the VSS wire and put a switch in it, and ground the grey ebrake wire. That thread has a picture of where the VSS is cut which is the most difficult part.

Bump for old thread, what does this mean "put a switch in it"?

I am getting and installing a pioneer nav deck soon and plan on doing all the bypasses myself... this is still somewhat confusing to someone not terribly familiar with auto wiring.

He put a physical toggle switch in so that he can ground out the speed sensor allowing him to use the gps when he wants. The speed sensor is used to help the gps keep track of the vehicle in times of poor gps signal, so the gps works with the speed sensor off; but it may be less accurate. If the gps needs help he can now switch it back to having the speed sensor, but the head unit will lock hm out again.

This will not be the correct method for bypassing a Pioneer unit. If you are getting a pioneer nav unit check out the avic411 forums. For those you need to move the mute wire on the rca harness and ground it.

If it is a non nav unit you just put a toggle switch on the parking brake wire and when you want to use VIM flip the switch.

Or for the AVH and AppRadio models get a microbypass. $20 on Amazon, 3 wires connect to the harness, done.

That looks wonderfully easy. Looking forward to getting my 950bh a lot more now.

So I went ahead with ordering the Beat Sonic wiring harness that's posted in this thread, since I'm not good with wiring and just wanted to do something simple. When going to install the harness, it's the wrong size. So at this point I'm very frustrated because the box says Subaru on it. I want something simple....and I'm not completely confident in my abilities to cut n splice wires.

I tired one of the bolts that holds the Unit, no dice. Still blocks out phone functions like dial pad dialing. Tried that screw on the last picture, no dice either.... The ground on the 10 pin connector, I need to cut it then connect with the gray one?
sorry so this picture is from a BRZ? correct?

so the ground would be the pink wire?

or is it the black and blue wire? and once i cut it i just re-attach a wire to extend the wire to the chassis and plug the connector back into the HU?

You can also find a screw on the back of the headunit, and ground the grey wire there. It needs Chassis ground. OR add a really long wire and find a nut/bolt on the car somewhere behind a panel and ground it there.

Where you ground it is not chassis ground (left of head unit nut) image 98.jpg.

Follow the above post, but keep in mind this does not complete the bypass. This is only to not need the parking brake up. To complete the bypass, you need to add a switch in the VSS cable to turn it off for instruction input and then back on for normal driving in order for the GPS to work properly.
