LinkedIn is just facebook with a tie. I've frustrated more than one former colleague because I don't respond to requests for references. Keep having to explain that I don't have an account.

I have the same at my hospital, but I don't get it. I have to wear a mask if I go into patient areas. Luckily, in 28 years, I have never gone into patient areas.

Hospitals have crazy rules.

Here is what I have to sign:

I do not want to receive the flu vaccine this influenza season. I acknowledge that influenza vaccination is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for all healthcare personnel to prevent infection from and transmission of influenza and its complications, including death, to my patients, my coworkers, my family and my community. By selecting this option, I understand that if my workplace has a mandatory vaccination program, I am requesting an exemption.

12) I agree and accept the above statement. *YesNoJoint Commission requires and CDC recommends that we document the reasons for declining the flu vaccine. Please share your reason(s) why you have declined the flu vaccine.

13) I am concerned about side effects and/or safety. *YesNo
14) I have a medical condition that prevents me from receiving the flu vaccine. *YesNo
15) I do not believe in vaccines for religious or philosophical reasons. *YesNo
16) I believe the influenza vaccine gives the person the flu. *YesNo
17) I don't believe the vaccine prevents the flu. *YesNo
18) I have a fear of injections (don't like needles). *YesNo
19) It's inconvenient. *YesNo
20) It's not important - "I never get the flu". *YesNo
21) Other reason. *YesNo
22) If other reason, please explain.

I always put other, and "none of your business."

I've heard that they got a building down New York City, called Whitehall Street; where you walk in and you get injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected and selected.
But Arlo could have made that up for all I know.

I work in a Hospital System (in IT). It's a condition of employment unless you have a specific allergy and are willing to pay for the tests to prove it. Same thing with annual TB testing. That one I had an allergic reaction to (I have several unusual allergies) so I don't have to do that each year.

Usually this kind of thing isn't a problem but there is something in flu shots that makes my system run a little wacky. One year it affected my vision so that if I looked at the back of my hand it looked like it was crawling, like after staring at one of those optical illusion gifs.

Besides not being optional, I don't have to go in the areas often but it is sometimes necessary to get to data closets, etc. One of our secondary data centers is in the same wing as patients (used to be the primary data center when the "system" was 1 hospital and not 5 as it is now). I also meet with medical staff so that complicates it.

Drive home, drink a pint of whisky, take a long nap - that will make it all better.

But what if a patient with the flu wonders into your area and sneezes on you -

Then they would be way lost since my admin building is about a block from the hospital. Plus we lock the doors.
